Su***de, Overdose, Homicide and MV Accidents are still the leading causes of death among young people in the US.
This is more evidence supporting my hypothesis that all of these (especially when they occur under the age of 25) should be counted as "Death's of Despair"...
(a term coined to describe similar phenomena, of mostly self harm / su***de/ overdose and self inflicted organ disease (like cirrhosis) related deaths, in much older demographic).

As far as I can tell, this is a collective, socio-cultural, socio-economic, National crisis which our society has not and will not come to grips with, (let along begin to fight effectively) until we reestablish our unifying principles (such as, the collective pursuit of truth over comfort, more open, respectful, honest discourse, over signaling virtues that are not virtues at all, and standing up for what we know to be true rather than caving under the pressure of mob rule, conforming to the doctrine of the day).

In the words of the great Doctor Roland Fryer, "If you want to help people you tell them the truth". We don't want to give the wrong prescription for solving the problem because we are too afraid of our collective shadow to face the multifaceted causes.

A new study reveals that aggression and self-harm share a biological foundation in the brain’s response to early-life trauma.

Digital technology is powerful and like most things, the poison is in the dose.
Use it responsibly. Teach your children to do the same.

Media consumption may be affecting your mental wellbeing right now. We hope these tips help to set boundaries for reading, watching, and consuming media in any form. ⬇️

1. Set intentional time for media consumption, and limit scrolling on social media. We know it's hard to put our phones down, but even a 10 minute break can do wonders.
2. Turn off notifications and avoid reading comments as needed.
3. Read stories from trusted sources and be cautious of misinformation on social media.
4. Filter your feeds to content that supports your mental wellbeing, and limit posts that may cause stress. If you can, avoid platforms that may feed you content from creators and accounts that you aren't already following.
5. Avoid the news or scrolling right before bedtime. Getting a night of good sleep can help support your mental health for the coming days.

Remember, if you're struggling, you are not alone. Call the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline or text TALK to 741741 at the Crisis Text Line. Help is available.
