This is only about half of the donations we’ve received. 🥹

As we reflect on everything we’ve accomplished together, we can’t help but feel overwhelming gratitude for our community. For the first two years, I remember going broke more times than I can count just to keep the community box stocked, sleepless nights trying to figure out new ways to give back.

You all made that so much easier this year.

Because of you, many families will eat tonight. We know how hard money is right now, and still, you show up. That generosity means more than we can ever put into words.

Our community truly is something special. Despite all the bad we see in the world, we have each other where it matters most.

🌟 Community Box Announcement: Spaghetti Meal Update 🌟

Hey neighbors! I wanted to share an update about the Nov 22 spaghetti meal.

With everyone receiving their SNAP benefits this week, the need for a Nov 22 meal ended up being a lot lower than expected and we also didn’t have the volunteer coverage needed to run that date well. Instead of stretching people thin, we’ve decided to shift all our energy toward creating a bigger and more impactful Christmas Day meal. 🎄🍝

A huge thank you to everyone who already signed up or donated. Your kindness keeps this little Community Box going. ❤️

If you’d like to donate or volunteer for the Christmas meal, please let me know. We want to serve as many neighbors as possible this holiday season. 🌟

NEW FOLLOWERS! Thank you so much! Please invite your friends to our page!🩷☺️ as we grow we need all the help we can get. This little shelf has been up and running for years now, but it’s been difficult to keep up with. We are hoping that now more people are witnessing the benefit of these boxes, that we can expand and grow and feed more people. It’s a small thing that makes a huge impact. From unhoused neighbors to people from the other side of the neighborhood needing a meal, we have always loved providing.

Should we make an Amazon wishlist for our spaghetti dinners?! Any suggestions?!

🌱 The OWE Community Box: A Resource for the People, By the People

Since 2021, the OWE Community Box has been a place of unlimited access, no judgment, and pure community care. It has been completely run, supported, and utilized by the people—no restrictions, no barriers, just neighbors helping neighbors.

We’re excited to hear that others want to create community boxes because every effort to help families is a step in the right direction. We would have loved to be part of that conversation, to share our experiences and insights. We may not be as well-known, but we know that we are an asset to the families who rely on us.

Unlike other programs, we have never asked for city assistance or funding—only for the generosity of the community itself. At one point, we were told we were being considered for support, but later informed that there were “more important” priorities and were never consulted again.

But that’s okay. Because we are a community box, and that is enough.

We are not part of any organization. We are just a box, in front of a person’s house—someone who worked at the hospital at the height of COVID, saw people suffering, and wanted to help.

✨ How You Can Help ✨
📦 Donations can be dropped off anytime! If it fits in the box (within reason), it can be donated.
🥫 Food is always appreciated! Many families in the area rely on this resource, and nothing lasts too long.

📍 Find us in front of the big white house on Proud Street, sharing an alley with Parsons.

We may not have as much as others, but what we have matters. What we provide makes a difference. And as long as there are people who need us, we will continue to be here—without limits, without judgment, and with open hands.

Yay!

Tonight and tomorrow we will be expecting extremely cold temperatures. We want to make sure all are warm and safe so our lobby is open now through Tuesday at 8:00am as a warming center for men, women, and kids in the community. We confirmed that our friends at the New Norm will be open during the day Sunday and Monday too.

As always, both Muncie Mission (for men) and YWCA (for women and children) are open 24/7 for shelter year round.

Our team has ready delicious hot chocolate, coffee, sandwiches, donuts, popcorn, and our friends from Insomnia Cookies even gave us some yummy cookies to share.

Please help us get the word out that there’s a warm, safe place to stay!
