Rotary Club of Mountainside NJ

Rotary Club of Mountainside NJ Established in 1961, with a mission of Service above Self. We are neighbors, community leaders, and g Members traveling throughout the U.S.

Rotary was founded in Chicago in 1905 by Paul Harris and a handful of other businessmen. What began as a small business networking group that would also perform community service has grown to more than 1.2 million members in over 200 countries. In 1928, the Rotary Foundation was established to fund various good works performed by Rotarians both locally an

d worldwide. Whether large or small, projects may be eligible for grants from the Rotary Foundation. The Mountainside Rotary Club was established in 1961. The Mountainside Rotary Club constructed the bus shelter on Route 22 in front of the Municipal Building. The Club has provided college scholarships to Mountainside resident H.S. graduates, leadership training to selected students, distributed dictionaries and thesauruses for grade school children, purchased computers for the schools and much, much more. With other Clubs in a joint project, the Mountainside Rotary Club provided funds for libraries to be built in Nepal. Members have supported the funding of successful sustainable improvements to the infrastructure, water quality, sanitation and education in parts of Ecuador. In 1979, Rotary International began the effort to eradicate Polio from the world. With the support of over 1 billion dollars raised and Rotarians personally traveling to innoculate children, reported cases have declined from 3000/day to only 181 worldwide last year. Though it is a service organization, at its heart Rotary is still a networking group. and the world can visit a local Rotary Club to meet others. Any where there is a Rotary Club, members from other clubs are always welcomed.

The Rotary Club was honored to participate in the 66th Annual Recognition Program celebrating the achievements of this year’s graduating students.
Congratulations to scholarship recipients Ashley Santos and Thomas DiNorscio, who each received a $1,000 Rotary scholarship in recognition of their hard work, dedication and accomplishments.

We extend our appreciation to Principal Margaret D. Berry, Assistant Principal Dennis Dagounis and Dr. Ashley Janosko, Director of School Counseling for their leadership and support of the students. The evening also featured a wonderful performance by the Select String Ensemble, adding to this special celebration.

A special thank you to Rotarian Lisa Allen for presenting the scholarships on behalf of our club.

We wish all graduates continued success as they begin the next chapter of their educational and personal journeys. Congratulations, Class of 2026! 🎓 🏆

Today we hosted an important community conversation on mental health awareness, resources and advocacy.

We are grateful for the outstanding speakers. Mary Claire Givelbar—Caring Contact, Morgan Thompson—Prevention Links and Ray Freaney from the Mental Health Advocates of Rotary District 7475.

Conversations like these help break stigma, encourage understanding and remind people that support is available.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make this gathering meaningful. The Mountainside Rotary was proud to sponsor this important event. 💙💛

The Mountainside Rotary Club had the honor of inducting Marlene Perez-Santalla with the help of Treasurer Nikhil Rele. Her husband, Carlos, had the honor of pinning her. She is a Realtor Salesperson at Compass and her dedication, leadership and commitment have already made a meaningful impact in our community. We’re so excited to see her continue to contribute as a valued member of the Rotary family. 💙💛 Congratulations Marlene! 🎉
