During a recent visit to the Elizabethport Community Center in Elizabeth, we connected with team members leading a wide range of impactful programs, including the Community Garden, Senior Food Nutrition & Security Program, Wellness Initiative for Senior Education (WISE), Strengthening Families initiative, and Case Management services.

Through educational opportunities, wellness programming, recreational activities, and self-sufficiency supports, the center continues to empower individuals and families of all ages to stay engaged, connected, and supported within their community.

Summer 2026 is almost here! Registration is now open for the Twp. of Union Recreation Multi-Sports Weekly Squirts Classes for ages 2-5 at Rabkin Field.

Give your child the chance to try soccer, lacrosse, T-ball, and track & field while building coordination, skills, and confidence in a supportive environment. Classes run Tuesdays, July 7 – August 11.
- Parent Assist (Ages 2.5-3.5): 4:30pm–5:15pm.
- Multi Sports (Ages 3-4.5): 5:20pm–6:05pm.
- Multi Sports (Ages 4-5.5): 6:10pm–6:55pm. $135 per session.

Summit Has Pride Event Returns Sunday, June 14, 2026

SUMMIT, NJ, June 1, 2026 – The City of Summit’s annual LGBTQ+ Pride Month event, Summit Has Pride, will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2026, from 3PM to 5:30PM on the Village Green, located at 356 Broad Street in Summit.

Summit Has Pride celebrates the LGBTQ+ community in Summit and surrounding areas. The event will feature a musical performance by former The Voice contestant Sabrina Dias at 3PM and The Bad Judies in concert at 4PM. The event will also include health and educational displays from organizations serving the LGBTQ+ community, special art activities, food trucks, a photo booth station, and more. The event is free and open to all members of the public.

This event is sponsored by Atlantic Health, the Jewish Federation of MetroWest New Jersey, and Saint John’s Lutheran Church.

🤽‍♀️ The Union County Board of County Commissioners is excited to announce the return of free swimming lessons for county youth ages 3 through 12, in collaboration with The Gateway Family YMCA. The valuable program will take place at the Walter E. Ulrich Memorial Pool, located at 3 Park Drive in Clark. The program runs from July 7 through August 27, 2026.

“Knowing our children are equipped with swimming skills and can safely participate in water activities over the summer can bring us parents and grandparents great peace of mind,” said Union County Commissioner Chairman Joseph C. Bodek. “We are thrilled to offer this opportunity once again to families all over the county free of charge, making this valuable life skill more accessible for our most vulnerable residents. I encourage parents to check their eligibility for this program and apply.”

Class sizes are limited to ensure a safe and personalized experience. Youth classes are capped at 6 participants per session. Class Schedule & Details are as follows:

To qualify, children must reside in low-income households and provide proof of eligibility at the time of enrollment. Acceptable qualifying criteria include participation in programs such as TANF, SNAP, the National School Lunch or School Breakfast Program, Medicare Part D, SSI, Head Start or Early Head Start, WIC, Section 8 Housing, LIHEAP, or Pell Grants, or living in a Qualified Census Tract (QCT). Please note: registration will not be confirmed without proof of eligibility.

🏊‍♀️ The 2026 Free Youth Swimming Lessons Program has been funded by the Office of Open Space, Recreation, and Historic Preservation Trust Fund.
