Ants are good!

Ants are some of nature’s hardest workers, and they do far more than most people realize. In woodland ecosystems, many native wildflowers actually depend on ants to spread their seeds. The ants carry the seeds back to their nests, eat the nutritious coating, then discard the seed where it can grow into a new plant.

This natural partnership helps spread beautiful woodland flowers like trilliums, violets, bloodroot, and Dutchman’s breeches. Ants also aerate soil, recycle nutrients, and help keep ecosystems healthy.

Even the smallest creatures play a huge role in nature!

Tomorrow is Drop Everything and Read Day. Celebrated every April 12 in honor of Beverly Cleary’s birthday, this national event encourages families to pause their busy schedules and make reading a priority. The idea comes straight from Cleary’s beloved Ramona books, where D.E.A.R. time—“Drop Everything and Read”—was a cherished classroom ritual.

Take a moment tomorrow to unplug, open a book, and get lost in a story—because there’s no better time to read than right now.
