Icelandic Roots Icelandic Roots is a nonprofit, global, heritage community dedicated to preserving and sharing Icelandic heritage, culture, and genealogy.

Icelandic Roots is a global Icelandic heritage community — honoring our stories, connecting families across oceans, and offering resources and programs that help keep our shared heritage alive for future generations. We offer free public opportunities: website, social media, and bi-weekly newsletter (sign up at www.IcelandicRoots.com). There are several ways to participate in the IR community:

Things are MOVING at the Icelandic Rootshús! 🇮🇸❤️

All Finish Concrete is hard at work on the site in Mountain today to prepare the foundations.

And - we just checked off another big piece of the puzzle. Sunna finished signing the papers this morning for the 0.71-acre hillside parcel behind the Rootshús. It is officially ours! 🎉

That hillside is an important part of the Rootshús property and the beautiful view from the Pembina Hills to the Red River Valley. One more piece in place. One more step forward.

After 8 years of planning, fundraising, land work, paperwork—and a LOT of patience—it is pretty wonderful to see trucks, equipment, dirt moving, and the Rootshús actually becoming real.

We, Iceland's children, in homeland born,
and to our motherland with love we are bound,
a heartache, almost, if from her we're torn
and all the ships of hope have run aground.
Since youth it thus became my cross to bear
to have to lose the books and horses fair.

But Lady Luck has westward led us,
until at last we reached Pacific shores;
and Time Eternal, best of all the healers,
the ties of family he ne'er cut, and this has eased all sores;
so here we are, but minds and souls do roam;
for who remembers not our first love of home?
