The Rotary Club of Mountain View recently heard from Debbie Shockley about her work with children and teenagers in our local communities. Her practice is not to provide her clients with a solution to their complicated problems; rather, she helps them find an appropriate method for navigating their lives with both grace and desired growth. Her reach extends from Mountain View to West Plains and the surrounding communities.
Thank you, Debbie, for all you do to support young children and teenagers as they learn to cope with their complicated lives and become purpose-filled adults.

The Rotary Club of Mountain View was busy in April! From pruning trees and shrubs and cleaning up the Rotary Park to collecting litter and trash along downtown streets, the club put in the time to help make the town shine!

Be sure to visit The Rotary Park in Mountain View. It has almost a mile of trails and it’s right in the middle of town, just south of the nursing home!

This morning, Randy Berner of Mercy Hospital in Mountain View, presented to the Rotary Club one of the latest programs underway between multiple rural hospitals supported by federal grants (RCORP).

vSURP is a new program, designed by Mercy, to utilize federal grant money to support and facilitate the recovery of substance abuse victims. How it works:

1. Participating hospitals will work in tandem with a dedicated primary care provider to identify and refer patients directly for seamless access to medical support once they leave the ER.
2. By offering those in need of support a primary care physician, the recovery process no longer depends solely on the victim. Instead, it will now be facilitated by follow-up Telehealth visits.
3. Take-home packs will be available to patients with withdrawal symptom-reducing medications. This will add a tertiary layer of support for those in need of substance abuse recovery.

Randy plays a pivotal role in implementing the vSURP program here in Mountain View at Mercy Hospital, and his work does not go unnoticed. By helping those whom society oftentimes gives up on, he and his team are doing a work that is admirable, remarkable, and encouraging. Thank you, Randy, and all the staff at Mercy Hospital of Mountain View, for all you do.

In July of this year, the Rotary Club of Mountian View inducted a new member into the club. Charry McCann.

Charry’s experience with Rotary began when she was a young girl in the Girl Scouts. Rotary’s strong influence in her hometown has stuck with her through the years, and in 2025, she decided to join the club and help make a positive impact in the world starting with her local community.

Welcome Charry, we are excited to have you as a member of our club, and hope that through our shared mission you can achieve your vision for a brighter future for Mountain View, MO!

The Rotary Club of Mountain View was encouraged today by Missouri State Representative Lisa Durnell, who spoke on a range of subjects affecting all of us living in Missouri. She gave the club a glimpse of hope regarding her and fellow representatives’ work towards making single-subject bills the default method of passing and creating new legislation instead of omnibus bills, which often contain undesirable additions that go unnoticed and cause issues in the future.
Thank you, Lisa, for taking the time to talk to us this morning. Your work is appreciated!

The Rotary Club of Mountain View had a great morning hearing updates from MVBT School District Superintendent, Lana Tharp, and Birch Tree Elementary and Mountain View Elementary Principal, Angie Jester.

The two speakers provided updates about new programs and initiatives at the district as a whole and offered clarity regarding the decision to have one principal oversee both the Mountain View Elementary and Birch Tree Elementary.

Some Updates Covered:

1. More Monday student activities are now offered.
2. More parent involvement activities.
3. Increased Vo-Tech numbers.
4. Upgraded tennis courts.
5. Cell phones are now put away for the entire school day. This new requirement has been easier to implement than initially expected, allowing for a more focused learning environment in the future.
6. Enrollment numbers are decreasing YOY.
7. There is a need for school bus drivers. If you know of anyone who may be interested, please encourage them to apply!
8. A new initiative to bridge the Birch Tree and Mountain View communities, creating a Better Together Mindset.

Thank you, Lana and Angie, for taking the time to provide updates on the MVBT School District and for your passion for educating the youngest members of our community.
