We are announcing an upcoming change: Laulima Nature Center will be closing our Mountain View location as our lease comes to an end. This is by no means goodbye— change is a natural part of growth, and this transition allows us to focus more on our values and mission. Our current location has been a joy in so many ways, providing a space for people to gather and grow. Operating a brick and mortar comes with many costs and sacrifices, however. We have struggled to stay afloat, so transitioning our outreach to a mobile model is a practical decision and provides more opportunities to meet with folks in the outdoors, classrooms, and more. Please smile for us as Laulima Nature Center enters a new chapter more aligned with our conservation-focused mission.

Our last public event will be the Laulima Art Hui, which will meet next Thursday (2/12), see flyer below. We will officially close our space at the end of Feb, but will be holding a special celebration for our members on March 1 from 4-6pm. Don’t worry, your memberships still hold value as they provide access to our more curated future outdoor excursions (i.e. birding, bugging, & botanizing).

We are honored to have been a hub for our community over the last year. Thank you for filling our hearts with joy and providing hope for the future of native species and ecosystems. Please come by and say hi before we close our physical doors for good! Mahalo for being part of our LNC ‘ohana. Without people like you, the world would be a dimmer place. Your compassion and care are invaluable.

Join us at Laulima Nature Center for a hands-on, community-focused event dedicated to hiking gear decontamination, reuse, and sustainability. As we head into a new year of adventures, this is the perfect chance to refresh your gear and connect with others who care about protecting Hawaiʻi’s natural spaces.

This event is all about bringing together our conservation community, sharing knowledge, having fun, and stepping into the new year with clean gear and renewed commitment to the places we love.

🤝 Tables From Local Conservation & Environmental Groups: Learn about the different ways we can protect our ecosystems and the people working to make it happen.

🛍️ Rummage Sale: Shop second-hand items, including clothing, home goods, books, and more! We welcome community donations of goods (in good condition) for the rummage sale. Donation drop off dates (9am-3pm): Dec 20-21, Dec 29, Jan 9-10.

🧵Mending Station: Give your gently used gear a second life! Visit our mending station for simple repairs and tips on extending the life of your outdoor equipment. For an $15 donation you can get an item of your choice embroidered with a design special for this event (can be used to patch holes depending on item condition).

🧽Gear Washing & Decontamination Station: Bring your muddy boots, backpacks, rain gear, trekking poles, etc. Our team will show you how to properly clean your equipment to reduce the spread of invasive species and keep gear performing at its best.

🍴Potluck: We welcome our community to bring dishes to share (please include an ingredient list).

As this year comes to a close, we’re feeling so grateful for every one of you who helped us grow, learn, and care for this ʻāina together. This Giving Tuesday, we’re inviting you to become a sustaining Member of Laulima Nature Center (the best way to support our mission year-round).

If you already became a member earlier this year, mahalo piha! Your support is the backbone of our growth. We encourage you to get even more involved next year—volunteer with us, join events, or make a one-time Giving Tuesday donation to help carry this work forward 🪴

Building a community-centered conservation space means being transparent about how we grow. Here’s how your membership strengthens the foundation we’re building:

🌱 Gift Shop Sales: Our new Mountain View home helps sustain our basic operations, but memberships help keep us on track as we expand programs.

🌱 Foundation Grants: Grant cycles are more competitive than ever. A strong base of sustaining members shows funders that our community believes in this work.

🌱 Sponsorships & Donations: We’re growing these partnerships (from $1,800 → $6,500 this year!), and if you know a business aligned with our mission, we’d love an introduction.

Membership fees directly support:
• community festivals
• environmental justice talks
• keiki programming
• arts workshops
• field trips
• members-only events (2x/year)
…and so much more!

🌈 Become a Member Today 🤝
