📣Cub Scout Pack 167
Leadership Needed!💙

Hello Scout Families and Community Members,

Our Pack is in need of adult leaders to help keep our program going strong! Right now, we have only one active adult leader, and we need your help to continue offering meetings and activities for our Scouts.

All leadership positions are open and available, except for Cubmaster. We are looking for dedicated adults to serve as:
• Committee Chair
• Committee Members
• Den Leaders
• Assistant Cubmaster
• Pack Secretary
• Advancements Coordinator
• And other supporting roles!

Cub Scouting is a family program, and every parent plays an important part in making it successful. If you’re interested in helping, please reach out to us or contact the Natural State Council for how to enroll as an adult leader and complete the necessary training.

Your time and involvement make all the difference — together, we can keep the adventure going for our Cubs! 🌟

🌱 Our Cubs got their hands dirty (and had lots of fun!) learning about plants today! Each Scout took home their very own plant-in-a-jar along with an observation pamphlet. 🌟

Over the next week, they’ll be watching how the roots grow and recording what they see — ready to bring their plants back to share at the next meeting. 🌿✨

Growing Scouts, growing plants, growing fun! 💚🐾

🚨 Interested in Cub Scouts? 🚨

We’re a small, family-oriented Cub Scout Pack with kids ages 5 to 10—and we’d love to welcome new families to join us! 💙🦅

Our Pack works as a whole group (instead of separate dens), so Scouts of different ages learn and grow together. We also have amazing older Scouts who serve as Den Chiefs and help lead activities.

Cub Scouts is a family activity—adventures, outdoor fun, and life skills, all with family participation. Parents/guardians stay involved at every step, so it’s a great bonding experience!

👉 Curious if it’s a good fit? Check out what Cub Scouts do here: Cub Scouts Adventure Program - https://www.scouting.org/programs/cub-scouts/adventures/
👉 Ready to join? Enrollment is through the Natural State Council: https://my.scouting.org/online-registration/562427e9-eb70-4c31-99f0-f44da458d239/applicant-type

Feel free to message us with any questions. We can’t wait to meet new Scout families! 🏕️✨

🥑🌮 Den Chiefs Dive into Nutrition at the Calico Rock Museum and Visitors Center! 🥤🍓

This week, our Den Chiefs rolled up their sleeves for a delicious and educational experience at the Calico Rock Museum—this time focused on healthy eating and hands-on cooking! 👨‍🍳👩‍🍳

As part of their ongoing leadership and learning journey, the scouts explored the basics of nutrition, learning how to make smart food choices and fuel their bodies for adventure. Then, they got to work in the kitchen—blending fresh smoothies and hand-rolling their own flour tortillas from scratch! 🥤🌮

It was a fun, flavorful way to learn life skills, teamwork, and healthy habits—essential ingredients for any scout leader!

A big thank you to the Calico Rock Museum and The Nook for hosting another engaging and enriching experience. Your continued support of youth programs is a gift to the whole community!

🟢🐍 Fabulous Friday at The Nook – Snake Edition! 🐍🟢
Den Chiefs in Action at the Calico Rock Museum and Visitors Center!

Last Friday, our Den Chiefs had an unforgettable morning during Fabulous Friday for Kids at the Calico Rock Museum, where they joined a special Snake Class at The Nook—and it was a slithering success! 🐍✨

Led by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, the hands-on session introduced our scouts to Arkansas’s native snakes, how to stay safe in the outdoors, and how to identify common and venomous species. The Den Chiefs leaned in with courage and curiosity—even touching real snakes and asking thoughtful questions along the way!

After the lesson, the scouts got creative with a fun craft session—painting wooden snakes and assembling foamy craft snakes to take home as souvenirs of their wild learning adventure. 🎨🐍

Huge thanks to the Calico Rock Museum, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, and especially Matt and Bradley for creating such a memorable, educational experience for our youth. We’re proud of our Den Chiefs for leading by example and soaking up every bit of this hands-on learning opportunity.

🪵 Woodcarving Workshop at Stone County Library ✨

Today, the Den Chiefs of Pack 167 participated in an inspiring introductory class on woodcarving at the Stone County Library—a fun and educational step toward their Woodwork Merit Badge. 🪚🎖️

They learned about carving techniques, tool safety, and explored various handcrafted pieces by a local artisan—including photos of a life-size nativity scene he helped create. To wrap up the day, the scouts crafted and decorated their own kites using wooden sticks—combining creativity with newly learned skills. 🎨🪁

Thank you to the Stone County Library (https://stonecountylibrary.com/) and the talented craftsman for hosting this unforgettable experience!

🤔 Can parents sign off on their own child's rank advancement or merit badges? 🤔

It's a common question, and the answer, according to the Guide to Advancement, is yes (if a registered leader and troop policy allows)! See Guide to Advancement 4.2.3.5 and 7.0.0.3

However, while allowed, it's highly recommended that Scouts work with other adults for these achievements, especially for Scoutmaster Conferences. Why?

💪 Builds Adult Association: Working with a non-parent Scoutmaster or Assistant Scoutmaster helps Scouts build relationships with other positive adult role models. This is a core part of the Scouting experience!
🌳 Encourages Growth: Stepping outside the family comfort zone can provide invaluable opportunities for Scouts to learn, grow, and develop independence by interacting with different perspectives and leadership styles.
Ultimately, the goal is to provide the best possible experience for our Scouts, fostering their growth and leadership.

Today, we honor the fathers, grandfathers, and father figures who walk beside us on every trail, tie the first square knot, teach us how to build a fire, and remind us that a Scout is helpful, kind, and brave; not just in the wilderness, but in life.

In Scouting, we believe that character is built through mentorship, example, and time shared outdoors. Fathers and male role models help shape the leaders of tomorrow by guiding Scouts with patience, encouragement, and strength.

Whether you're the one pitching the tent, leading the troop, or simply cheering from the sidelines, your influence runs deep. You help Scouts become better citizens, stronger friends, and more confident in themselves.

To all the dads and father figures in Scouting: thank you for showing up and showing the way.
