In 1976 hosted a yearlong series of programs and activities to mark the , including a kite-flying contest on March 20 that year.

Kites flown by kids and adults were judged in a variety of different categories.

This year, the is marking 250 years since the signing of the . Fifty years ago, Bicentennial events were held all over the country.

Organized by a large , the city of planned huge celebrations -- a parade, rodeo, lectures, a service and much more. During this year, we will feature stories from the events in Mountain View in 1975 and 1976.
