The department recently acquired a new pumper. It is being outfitted at station 4. We also were approved for a grant which will go toward replacing the original Station 1 which is incapable of housing the taller fire trucks. Once the new building is up, we will be able to house a pumper, tanker and, the brush truck currently housed there. Having another ISO-qualified station (station 1 did not meet the requirements) will help with the department's ISO rating which affects the insurance rates for our district.

The department was scheduled to have it's first round of Moderna Covid-19 anti-virus shots on January 12. It is not known yet how many of our firefighters got their first vaccination shots that evening but our First Responders and several others were there when the vaccinations began.

UPDATE: The Dodd Mountain Fire Dept. will be hosting a memorial for James Furrer on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2020 from 2p-4p at Dodd Mountain Fire Station #4: 1440 Misenheimer Road.

On Sunday, September 13, 2020, the Furrer family lost their beloved patriarch to COVID. Chief James Furrer became a volunteer with the Dodd Mountain Volunteer Fire Department at the age of 69. He was elected Fire Chief two years later and served 17 years as chief until his death. As chief, and First Responder, he helped initiate many improvements and projects over the years which helped the department grow in the number of fire stations, vehicles and equipment, training programs, collection of dues, grant proposals, and the reduction of the overall ISO Class rating.

Family members are still in the planning stage of how to honor Jim during these challenging times. We will announce Jim’s memorial service when plans are completed.

In lieu of flowers the family would like to request a donation to the James Furrer Memorial Fund in care of the Dodd Mountain Volunteer Fire Department. Please send your donation to DMVFD, PO Box 2302, Mountain View, AR 72560 and designate if for the JFMF in the memo area. You can also donate online at: https://www.gofundme.com/f/james-furrer-memorial-fund
We would also like to encourage you to share your prayers, thoughts, memories, photos, or light a candle on Jim’s virtual guest book at https://www.forevermissed.com/james-Ivan-Furrer

This online memorial is dedicated to James Ivan Furrer. It is a place to celebrate his life by sharing fond memories, photos, music and more.
