Floating peacefully in the air, feeling free. We invite you to join us on Thursday evening, June 4, 2026, 6:30-8:00 PM PT (UTC-7). We meet in person in the Mountain View, California, Community Center and simultaneously on Zoom (a “hybrid” meeting).

On June 4, 1783, the Montgolfier brothers, Joseph-Michel and Jacques-Étienne, first publicly displayed their hot-air balloon, which rose to about 1 mile high during a 10-minute demonstration. 5-1/2 months later was their first free flight carrying humans, chemist and physicist Jean-François Pilâtre de Rozier and soldier François Laurent, marquis d'Arlande.

Our promo photo is from Sonoma County’s Wine Country Balloons, “Like a Nature Walk in the Sky!” Their group flights have up to 20 people, though we in Orbiters have not yet scheduled such a meeting. And as our May 21 meeting promoted, we celebrate the rich diversity of our world and our journey in the cosmos.

Toastmasters International chartered our club, Orbiters Toastmasters, on Thursday, April 23, 1959. At our May 7 meeting we’re celebrating our 67th anniversary! In person at the Mountain View Community Center or on Zoom.

This special milestone is an opportunity for us to reflect on the rich history of our club, appreciate the journey that brought us here, and look ahead to the future that we continue to build together. Your voices are part of this story.

International Children's Book Day is every year on April 2, the birthday of Hans Christian Andersen. IBBY, The International Board on Books for Young People, sponsors this.

IBBY was founded in Zurich, Switzerland, in 1953. Its mission promotes international understanding through children's books, and gives children everywhere the opportunity to have access to books with high literary and artistic standards.

And how fun to read are the books? We invite our April 2 attendees to bring and share with us a favorite children's book. Or at least bring a picture of the book. Lots of possibilities out there.

On Sunday, March 8, here in California and in much of the US the time will “spring forward” one hour at 2:00 AM, becoming 3:00 AM. Our March 5 meeting will also recognize “spring forward” so that the attendees can share their own experiences of this — 2 in 1, our meeting theme and our public service announcement that the change in time will be 2+ days away. Good times for all.
