Pay attention!
WINTER STORM, it is possible in Arkansas to finish this week.
Here’s my thoughts as of Monday morning:
-After a somewhat quiet week, a significant push of cold air arrives late in the week.
-We will encounter a strong system with cold air in place, a recipe for a big storm involving snow, sleet and freezing rain.
-At this time, this has the potential to be high impact with significant accumulation of snow or ice.
-While snow and sleet will be possible, I am becoming increasingly concerned about high end ice potential in our state.
-Forecast specifics are unknown, but the entire state will likely observe something from this storm.
-Exact storm track, localized impacts and timing will become fine tuned the next 2-3 days.
-The cold air coming could be substantial. Saturday could feature the coldest January afternoon temperatures in years.
-Very preliminary data suggests an arrival of Friday, mid-day with the storm lasting through early Sunday AM.
Forecast data will continue to change slightly over the next few days, but this is looking more likely rather than not.
Myself and the entire Arkansas Weather Network team will be working hard all week to keep you informed.
