🔷 Lackawanna County's August meeting was dedicated to having an open discussion about AI Data Centers and how to protect our communities. We were very fortunate to be joined by Pa House Kyle Donahue, who represents the 113th District.

Our members asked lots of great questions about the bills that have passed in the House — and have been sitting in the PA State Senate for MONTHS. We also talked about the proposed Health Assessment Study on Data Centers being considered by the Lackawanna Commissioners. The meeting was informative and empowering, and we are grateful to Rep. Donahue and our members for such an engaging conversation!

This guide arrives on a day dedicated to advancing equality and ensuring representation.

It provides:
• tools for community listening and engagement
• a clear blueprint for building a Commission
• ready‑to‑use bylaws and templates

Shaped by stories from the State of the Woman Listening Tour, this new guide helps counties build lasting structures where women’s voices inform local decisions.

🔵 Action Together was proud to partner with Affordable Pennsylvania, Families Over Billionaires, Oxfam America, and For Our Future PA Action at the Green Ridge Club in Scranton for the SOS! Affordability Crisis: Community Conversation.

💸 Families in NEPA are feeling the squeeze - from health care to gas and groceries, the cost of living keeps rising. Federal policies our representatives are voting for in Washington are creating this affordability crisis.

🔷 It was great to hear from our special guests, Rep. Kyle Donahue, Rep. Jim Haddock, Lackawanna County Commissioner Bill Gaughan, and Lackawanna County Controller Gary DiBileo. Thanks to Families Over Billionaires Executive Director Kristin Crowell for facilitating this important conversation, and thanks to all the attendees who shared their stories!

🔷 We had a fantastic discussion at our August Luzerne Chapter Meeting! We were joined by our very own Advocacy Director Kristin Volchansky Community & Civic Engagement Manager Jimmy Conroy for a special presentation on our what we should expect from our elected officials. This great training helped empower our members to take action and learn some new tactics to stay in the fight!

📣 The Lackawanna County Board of Elections officially approved the ballot question to ban insider trading by local elected officials for the November 2026 general election ballot.

❤️ Following the submission of more than 40,000 signatures across two counties, including thousands from both major parties and independents, this achievement ensures that voters will have the final say on whether to implement strict ethical standards for those in power. By securing a spot on the ballot, NEPA residents are one step closer to ending self-service in government and codifying a system that prioritizes the public interest over personal profit.
