Some days the pain feels heavier than others, losing my son Major changed everything about me and my life. There are moments I still don’t understand and feel that what happened is so unfair.

God I know you have a plan for my life!

Today, on Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day, we reflect on the lives lost and the devastating impact of fentanyl in our community. The San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office, led by DA Ron Freitas, is dedicated to combating this crisis through our "One Pill Can Kill" education campaign—the first of its kind in our region. Meet Rhonda Manning, a mother who tragically lost her son Major to fentanyl poisoning. Her courage, along with the courage of ALL families who have endured such loss, fuels our mission as we work to prevent future tragedies and protect our loved ones.

If you would like our office to speak to your group about the dangers of fentanyl, please visit this link to request a presentation: www.sjgov.org/department/da/resources/onepill-request. Together, we can save lives.

This weekend, District Attorney Ron Freitas, Chief of Investigations Bill Hutto, and Narcotics Prosecutor Cindy De Silva attended the California Narcotics Officers Association (CNOA) Conference. It was a profound honor to present the Citizen of the Year Award to the Manning family, who have turned the unimaginable loss of their son, Major, to fentanyl poisoning into a powerful mission of advocacy and education.

Their strength and dedication inspire us all as we continue the fight against the fentanyl epidemic. Together, we can save lives and create a safer future for our communities.
