🌟 GOLD PARTNER SPOTLIGHT 🌟

We are deeply honored and grateful to recognize The Ferrel Lewis and Mary Evans Freer Foundation as a Gold Partner of the Mountain Home Juneteenth Memorial Scholarship — with a generous donation of $2,500!

The Freer Foundation carries the legacy of two people with roots planted right here in Mountain Home. Ferrel Lewis Freer grew up on these very streets, and it was here that he first crossed paths with his future wife, Mary Evans. Their story is one of love, hard work, and giving back — and this foundation continues that spirit beautifully.

Their investment in our Juneteenth Memorial Scholarship is more than a donation. It’s a statement that Mountain Home’s history belongs to ALL of us — and that our future is worth funding.

To the Freer Foundation family: thank you for seeing this vision, for honoring this moment in history, and for helping us invest in the next generation of leaders right here in our community. 💛🖤

We are Mountain Home. We remember. We rise.

What is Juneteenth?

Juneteenth (June 19th) commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas and announced that enslaved people were free — more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It’s the oldest celebration of the end of slavery in the United States and became a federal holiday in 2021.
Idaho officially recognized Juneteenth on February 28, 2001, when Governor Dirk Kempthorne signed the Juneteenth Holiday Bill, making Idaho the fifth state in the nation to formally recognize the holiday — a full 20 years before the federal government caught up.
This year, 2026, marks the 25th anniversary of Idaho’s recognition of Juneteenth — a milestone worth celebrating, especially right here in Mountain Home!

🎉SPECIAL GUEST ANNOUNCEMENT🎉

The Mountain Home Juneteenth Community Celebration has a VERY special announcement —

Cherie Buckner-Webb is our Special Guest!

And you do NOT want to miss this! 🙌🏾

Idaho’s FIRST elected African American state legislator — and its first African American woman legislator — is bringing her fire, her grace, and her story straight to Mountain Home!

A fifth-generation Idahoan , Cherie’s roots in this state run deeper than most people know. When she was just seven years old, the K*K burned a cross in her family’s front yard. Her mother didn’t cower — she had that cross put on display so everyone would know: this family is NOT moving. That is the spirit that shaped Cherie Buckner-Webb. And THAT is the energy she’s bringing to our celebration! 💪🏾

A nationally recognized speaker, small business owner, and community powerhouse , Cherie lives by her mother’s legendary credo:

“Disturb the Peace.”

She calls us to be champions for compassion, ambassadors for humanity, and warriors for justice. On Juneteenth — that message hits different. 🕊️

And if that weren’t enough — she’s also an accomplished vocalist who has performed across the U.S. and recorded with the late jazz great Gene Harris. So yes, she might just SING! 🎶

This is a FREE, family celebration and EVERYONE is welcome.

Come as you are. Bring your chairs. Make history with us.
