Your Library card, however, is working overtime.

Baxter County Library cardholders can use Libby anytime to access eBooks, audiobooks, and magazines from home.

Which is useful if you finish your book tonight and immediately require another one.

Hint: Your 8-digit birthdate is your password.

Sometimes the best thing you can do while reading to a child is stop.

New research found that children talked more when adults paused to ask questions, responded to their answers, and turned story time into a conversation.

Instead of simply reading straight through, try:

“What do you think happens next?”

“What do you see?”

“Why do you think they did that?”

One of the researchers is from the University of Arkansas — and the team has even created a free online program to show families how to do it.

One mill.

That’s the property tax dedicated to Baxter County Library — and that rate hasn’t changed since the 1950s.

Meanwhile, what it takes to operate a modern public library certainly has.

In 2025, property taxes and state aid provided about 67% of Library revenue. The Baxter County Library Foundation provided another 27% — more than one out of every four dollars.

Foundation support isn’t just for the extras. It helps keep the Library open, operating and serving Baxter County.

That’s why community support matters.

September is Library Card Sign-up Month.

And at Baxter County Library, there’s no minimum age for a Library card.

Even babies can have one.

They may have trouble reaching the return slot, but otherwise they’re fully qualified.

A Library card opens the door to much more than books — eBooks and audiobooks, online resources, classes, programs and more.
