Gotham City has a problem.

Its caped crusader has been stuck in a kennel for the last 3 months.

Batman is 10 years old, but don't tell him that. This little Chihuahua still has plenty of energy, plenty of opinions, and absolutely no plans to slow down anytime soon. He's always ready to patrol for snacks, investigate suspicious activity, and make sure everyone knows he's on duty.

While Batman would love to find his forever Batcave, he'd also be thrilled to go on a foster adventure. Even a short-term sleepover gives him a chance to trade kennel life for couches, blankets, and quality time with his human sidekicks.

Fostering isn't just a vacation for Batman. It's also one of the best ways for us to learn more about him. Dogs often reveal new superpowers when they're living in a home, and the more we know about Batman's personality, routines, and preferences, the easier it is to find his perfect forever match.

So we're putting out the Bat Signal.

If you're looking for a loyal companion with a big personality packed into a small package, Batman is ready to answer the call. Whether you can offer a forever home or just a temporary mission, you'd be making a real difference for this little hero.

Oberon is ready to find his person.

This affectionate boy loves attention and would prefer to be your one and only pet, as he's not a fan of other cats or dogs. In return, he'll gladly fill your home with companionship and love.

Oberon is currently available through a foster-to-adopt arrangement while he finishes a course of medication that's simply mixed into his food.

If you're looking for a cat who wants nothing more than to be your best friend, Oberon is waiting to meet you.

This is Galahad, and frankly, we're running out of excuses for why he's still here.

He's 2 years old, great with people, great with other dogs, and has spent the last 8 months waiting for someone to notice him. He's one of those dogs that staff members constantly recommend because he's just so easy to be around.

So what's the catch?

Well... Galahad can climb a 6-foot chain link fence.

Not jump it. Climb it. Like a furry little rock climber.

The good news is that he typically uses the chain link itself to work his way up, so a solid wall, wood fence, or another secure fencing setup MIGHT solve the problem. And honestly, Galahad may not even need much of a yard at all.

For a 2-year-old dog, he's surprisingly fond of naps. When he's not hanging out with his people or canine friends, he's often perfectly content snoozing the day away. An apartment, condo, or similar setup with regular potty walks could be a great fit for him.

Galahad has spent eight months waiting despite being friendly, social, and at the perfect age. We know his person is out there somewhere.

Please come adopt Zeus.

He is 5 years old and wonderfully uncomplicated. No big schemes. No deep existential thoughts. He just wants to be near his people at all times. Sit on the couch? Zeus is there. Walk to the kitchen? Zeus is coming too. Need a shadow with four legs and zero personal boundaries? Perfect. That’s his calling in life.

Zeus is one of those dogs who makes a house feel less empty just by existing in it. He’s affectionate, loyal, goofy, and happiest when he gets to simply share space with someone he loves. The kind of dog who reminds you that companionship does not have to be complicated to mean everything.

He’s waiting for a home at Living Free Animal Sanctuary, and honestly, he’s very ready to stop being a shelter dog and start being somebody’s boy.

Behind every happy dog at Living Free is a volunteer who showed up.

Our kennel volunteers do so much more than walk dogs. They help with laundry, cleaning kennels, preparing enrichment, filling Kongs, organizing supplies, and keeping daily life running smoothly for the animals in our care. Some spend their time helping energetic dogs burn off steam. Others sit quietly with shy dogs, offering patience and companionship at a pace the dog can trust.

Every task matters. Every hour makes a difference. Whether you want to get your hands dirty, enjoy being active outdoors, or simply spend time helping animals feel safe and loved, there's a place for you here.

If you've been looking for a meaningful way to give back, we'd love to welcome you to the team. Volunteer opportunities are available now, and our dogs would be thrilled to meet you.

🎉 A Happy Cattery Update from Living Free:

After a month of quarantine, deep cleaning, and a whole lot of hard work, we're excited to share that our cattery is officially back open!

And we're reopening with some wonderful news. Since lifting quarantine, we've already celebrated 3 adoptions, 1 foster-to-adopt placement for a kitten, and 1 additional foster home opening their doors to a cat in need.

The good news doesn't stop there. Our cattery renovation project is moving right along. Painting is complete, and we're getting closer every day to a brighter, cleaner, more beautiful space for the cats in our care.

The last month brought unexpected challenges and plenty of extra work behind the scenes, but our staff never stopped showing up for the animals who depend on them. We're incredibly proud of their dedication, and deeply grateful for the support this community has shown throughout it all.

A quick Denzel update... and honestly, we're not sure whether to laugh or cry.

The good news: Denzel got his staples removed today and is healing well from surgery. The better news: thanks to this incredible community, we've raised nearly $2,000 toward his veterinary expenses.

The challenge? Denzel feels fantastic.

After everything he's been through over the last three months, being returned to the sanctuary, ACL surgery, a rattlesnake bite, emergency treatment, and multiple follow-up visits, he's somehow still full of energy. In fact, he feels so good that keeping him calm and resting has become the biggest challenge of all.

His current foster placement ends today, and we urgently need another foster home for the remainder of his recovery. Denzel still has 6 weeks of restricted activity ahead of him and needs someone who can help keep him safe from himself while he heals.

If you can foster Denzel, please text 951-321-9982.

We're incredibly grateful for the support we've received so far. While we've made amazing progress toward covering Denzel's nearly $6,000 in veterinary expenses, we still have a ways to go. Every donation, share, and word of encouragement helps us continue saying "yes" when animals like Denzel need us most.

If you'd like to contribute toward his medical care, you can donate here: https://donorbox.org/animals_live_free-2

And if you can't foster or donate, please share this post. The more people who see Denzel's story, the better chance we have of finding the support he needs to finish his recovery strong.

Sir Galahad of the Round Table has taken up a noble new post: Window Watch 🛡️🐾

From his perch, he surveys the kingdom for fluttering birds, rogue squirrels, and any suspicious leaf activity. No dragon has gone unobserved. His vigilance is unmatched.

A true knight needs no sword—only a window, a breeze, and a very important job protecting the realm. ⚔️👑
