Sometimes the most powerful reset is as simple as taking a breath.

Breathing with intention can help calm the mind, regulate emotions, reduce stress, and bring us back to the present moment. Whether it’s a deep breath before a challenge, a pause during a busy day, or a quiet moment to recharge — intentional breathing is a tool we can all use.

Take a moment today to slow down, breathe deeply, and give yourself grace. Inhale peace. Exhale tension.

Meet Joey & Sam!

They are two of the amazing horses helping bring Horse Powered Reading to life at Leg Up Farm.

Joey may be small, but don't let him fool you. This Welsh Pony Cross previously competed in the hunter jumper world, even participating in the 2018 USEF Pony Finals. Today, Joey uses his intelligence, calm demeanor, and confidence-building personality to support participants as they learn and grow.

Sam, our lovable Draft Cross, is the self-appointed greeter and class clown of the barn. Sam helps participants feel comfortable, connected, and confident. His interactive personality and gentle nature make him a wonderful partner for building trust and communication skills.

Through Horse Powered Reading, horses like Joey and Sam help create an engaging environment where participants can strengthen emotional regulation, problem-solving, confidence, and connection, all while learning in a hands-on and meaningful way.

Balance is about so much more than standing still.

For kids, balance plays a big role in how they coordinate their body while moving, paying attention, and navigating everyday activities. If your child seems clumsy, avoids playground equipment, or has trouble slowing their body down, they may simply need more opportunities to practice balance through play.

Try simple activities like walking on different surfaces (grass, sand, pillows), playing freeze dance, stepping over objects, or carrying a toy while walking. You can even add a visual target like a favorite toy or tree to help keep their focus during movement.

These fun, everyday activities help build body awareness, coordination, attention, and confidence while helping kids feel more comfortable moving through their world.

Supporting sensory exploration doesn’t have to become a power struggle.

If your child avoids certain textures, sounds, or movement experiences, it can be helpful to introduce those sensations slowly and in a low-pressure way. Try pairing less preferred activities with something your child already enjoys like adding music to messy play or using tools before jumping in with hands.

Let your child control how much they engage, build in breaks as needed, and follow their cues. Sometimes a simple “try, take a break, try again later” rhythm can make a big difference.

Talking through the experience also helps build understanding and communication. Simple observations like “That’s sticky!” or “That was loud!” can help your child process what they’re feeling while staying calm and connected together.
