Our Story
Second Chances Wildlife Center is a grassroots non-profit that rescues injured, displaced, and orphaned native wildlife mammals in the Greater Louisville area in Kentucky. Our animal care team, made up of big-hearted, dedicated volunteers, cares for these animals while they are being rehabilitated for safe release back into the wild. Many of these animals come to us as tiny babies! We raise them, teach them life skills and then reintroduce them back into the wild so that they can do their very important jobs helping our ecosystem. Second Chances Wildlife Center offers exciting educational programs to community organizations and schools. Our programs are taught by volunteer teachers and are accompanied by our special education ambassadors who are rescued wildlife. These programs are very impactful, and teach how important wildlife and conservation are to the environment.
What are education ambassadors? Animals that cannot be successfully released back into the wild for various reasons have a home at our center for the rest of their lives. These animals are licensed to become wildlife education ambassadors. You can read their stories on our website and will see may of them posted here on our page.
