Spring Meadows Auxiliary

Spring Meadows Auxiliary A volunteer organization for Sunrise Children's Services At first, they sought families to take boys and girls left destitute or orphaned from the Civil War.

The Orphan's Aid Society was formed by the Ladies' Aid Society of Walnut Street Baptist Church in Louisville in 1866. Then, on June 30, 1869, they opened doors to the Louisville Baptist Orphans' Home to create a place of care and love. For the next 84 years, Baptists ministered to children through this facility and then in another in downtown Louisville. The women helped meet the needs of the chil

dren as well as helping with daily chores such as laundry and cleaning. Another Baptist children's home was established in 1915 in Glendale and was called Kentucky Baptist Children's home. In 1954 the Kentucky Baptist Convention created a board to oversee these two facilities - Kentucky Baptist Homes for Children. In 1950 the children in the downtown location were moved to a new facility - Spring Meadows Children's Home campus near Middletown, Kentucky. At about this time the woman formed Spring Meadows Auxiliary and met monthly at the Spring Meadows campus. In the Spring of 2006 Spring Meadows was relocated to Mt. Washington, Kentucky, and the auxiliary counties to volunteer for the renamed organization, Sunrise Children's Services.
