Today we celebrate the rich histories, cultures, and ongoing contributions of Indigenous peoples. Western Washington is home to many Indigenous nations whose relationships with these lands and waters continue to this day.

This day serves as an important reminder to honor the resiliency of Native peoples and reflect on the complex and painful history that Indigenous peoples have and continue to endure. Celebrating this day means listening to Indigenous voices, celebrating Indigenous leadership and creativity, and continuing to learn and take action.

We have tagged below some of our staffs favorite Indigenous-led organizations, artists, educators, and advocates. We encourage you all to support them and learn more about Indigenous organizations in your area.

September is a time to recognize and celebrate relatives and individuals who step into the role of caregiver for youth they know and love.

Kinship care encompasses relatives and people close to the family, including grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, adult siblings and family friends who step in to care for a child. In Washington state, more than half of the children and youth experiencing foster care are cared for by a kinship caregiver. These caregivers play a vital role in keeping youth connected to their families, communities, and cultures while providing a safe and familiar place to call home. Thank you to all the kinship caregivers out there who have opened their doors to youth in their direct communities.❤️

We’re taking a moment to celebrate our 2026 Legacy of Caring award recipient, Wryan Young.

“When our young people are connected, they are successful.”

We feel incredibly honored to work with Wryan, someone who advocates for our youth day in and day out. Someone who prioritizes community and connection. Being in relationship with youth and connecting them to their communities is the most vital step in healing.❤️

Thank you to Matt Shaps Creative for the video!
