Summer often means extra help for many businesses. If you're hiring seasonal or part-time employees, the reminds employers that these workers are subject to the same federal income tax withholding, Social Security, and Medicare tax rules as other employees.

If you're a seasonal employer, you also may not have to file Form 941 for quarters when you paid no wages and have no tax liability. Check the "seasonal employer" box in Part 3 of every Form 941 you file.

Summer may be in full swing, but tax season will be here before you know it!

More than half of our VITA clients were part of the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) population. With nearly 4 in 10 Knox County households living at or below the ALICE threshold or federal poverty guidelines, free tax preparation services provide crucial savings for families already working hard to make ends meet.

Take a look at the impact our VITA program made during last year's tax season.

Back-to-school season is just around the corner!

As we prepare for a new school year, we're taking a look back at the data from last year's Learn United program. Through after-school tutoring and academic support in four Mount Vernon elementary schools, Learn United helped students strengthen their skills, build confidence, and stay engaged in learning.

Take a look at the results from the 2025–2026 school year and see the impact we're making together!

Special thanks to our Learn United Program Champion, The Ariel Foundation!

Today marks Katie Ellis’ final day with United Way of Knox County as she moves on to her next adventure.

During her two years as Executive Director, Katie helped strengthen local impact in meaningful ways—most notably through the development of the All Kids Bike program, now active in all Knox County elementary schools.

As she closes this chapter, Katie leaves with a deep appreciation for the nonprofit community and the dedication, collaboration, and hard work that drive our shared mission forward.

We are grateful for her leadership and wish her all the best in what comes next.
