There's a reason we didn't do anything alone in the service.

You didn't run alone. You didn't train alone. You didn't push through the hard days alone. There was always someone next to you β€” not because the mission required it, but because that's just how it worked. You showed up for them. They showed up for you.

That doesn't have to stop just because the uniform came off.

A gym partner. A pickup game. A group run. A brother or sister who says "meet me there" and means it.

The research is clear β€” men who move with other people move more consistently, recover faster, and honestly just feel better. But most of us already knew that. We just forgot to keep doing it.

This Men's Health Month, Post 137 wants to challenge every member to find one person to move with. Not a program. Not an app. A person.

Because the camaraderie that kept you going in uniform? It still works. It always worked.

πŸ‘‡ Who's your battle buddy for getting after it? Drop their name below.

Today is Flag Day, the 251st Birthday of the United States Army, and Day 14 of Men's Health Month.

For 251 years, American Soldiers have answered the call to serve. They endured hardship, separation from family, dangerous conditions, and, in some cases, made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation and our freedoms.

The American Legion was founded by veterans who understood that service doesn't end when the uniform comes off. We continue to serve our communities, support one another, and honor those who never made it home.

Countless women have also answered our nation's call and made tremendous sacrifices in service to America. Their contributions are woven into our nation's history. But since June is Men's Health Month, today is an opportunity to remind the men in our lives to take care of themselves.

If we're willing to volunteer our time, support our communities, and honor the sacrifices of others, we should also be willing to take care of our own health.

Get the checkup.
Take the walk.
Stay active.
Talk to your doctor.
Reach out when you need help.

The American Legion exists because veterans understand the value of belonging to something bigger than themselves. There's an old saying: "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." Good health is no different. Find your tribe. Build relationships. Stay connected. The journey is easier when you have people beside you who will celebrate your successes and help carry the load when times get tough.

The best way to honor those who sacrificed everything is to live well, serve others, and be present for the people who count on us.

Happy Flag Day, and happy 251st Birthday to the United States Army.

Day 13 of Men's Health Month

Let's talk about hydration.

One of the biggest complaints I hear from people who start drinking more water is:

"I spend half my day running to the bathroom."

That's normal.

If you've spent years being chronically dehydrated, your body has gotten used to operating with less water than it needs. When you finally start giving it what it should have had all along, there's an adjustment period.

Think of it like cleaning out the garage of the world's biggest hoarder.

For years, your body has been collecting and processing all sorts of waste products, excess salts, and other garbage. Water helps your kidneys and other systems do the job they were designed to do: flush that stuff out.

The extra trips to the bathroom aren't a sign that hydration isn't working.

They're often a sign that it is.

So don't let a few extra restroom breaks convince you to go back to living on coffee, soda, or energy drinks.

Drink water.

Your body has enough work to do already. Give it the tools it needs to do the job.

Day 12 β€” Men's Health Month | Post 137

A study on brainwave responses found something worth talking about.

When researchers monitored brain activity and spoke to women, "I love you" created a measurable emotional response. When they did the same for men, the equivalent response came from just two phrases:

"I'm proud of you." and "Thank you."

Legion family β€” think about the men in your post. The ones who show up every month, fold the flag the right way, buy a ticket to support the kids' programs, check on the widow down the street.
Think about the ones who served, came home, never talked about what they saw, and just got back to work.

Nobody handed them a ceremony for that.

To every veteran and Legion member carrying something they never submitted a claim for β€” the invisible weight of service, of sacrifice, of just being a man in a world that doesn't always make room for what that costs:

We're proud of you. This post exists because of people like you.

And to our members who have engaged with this campaign, shared it with a buddy, or quietly passed it to someone who needed it β€”

Thank you for walking this path with us.

Check on your brothers. Say the words. It matters more than you know.

Men's Health Month Day 11

We notice the warning lights. We pay attention to strange noises. We know that ignoring problems usually makes them more expensive later.

Yet many men treat stress differently.

We ignore the warning signs. Poor sleep. Irritability. Fatigue. High blood pressure. Lack of motivation.

The reality is that stress takes a toll on both our minds and our bodies. Left unchecked, it can contribute to heart disease, anxiety, depression, and a host of other health issues.

The American Legion was founded on veterans helping veterans. Sometimes the best maintenance isn't a wrench or a toolbox. Sometimes it's a conversation with someone who understands.

Check in on a fellow veteran today.

And if you're struggling, let someone check in on you.

That's not weakness.

That's teamwork.

Day 10 | Men's Health Month

Check in with your circle.

Post family β€” this one's simple, and it matters.

We talk a lot about taking care of each other. It's in our DNA as Legionnaires. But sometimes the most important thing we can do isn't showing up to a meeting or volunteering for a detail.

Sometimes it's just picking up the phone and calling a fellow member you haven't heard from in a while.

Struggling in silence is one of the most dangerous things a man can do. And it happens all around us β€” inside these posts, inside these communities β€” because we've been conditioned to believe that needing people is a weakness.

It's not.

A few minutes of genuine conversation can remind someone that they are seen. They are valued. They belong to something.

If you've got a brother or sister from this post on your mind today β€” don't just think about them. Reach out.

That's what this organization was built for.

Day 8 of Men's Health Month

One of the lessons the military teaches us is that equipment performs best when it's properly maintained.

A vehicle can be tough. A Soldier can be tough. But neither can run forever on neglect.

Many of us spent our younger years eating whatever was available. Fast food between missions, energy drinks instead of sleep, chow hall favorites that probably contained more calories than common sense, and enough caffeine to keep a small city awake.

Back then, our bodies seemed to handle it.

Today, not so much.

Think about it this way:

How would a HUMVEE respond if you filled it with the wrong fuel?

It wouldn't accomplish the mission very well.

Yet many of us expect our bodies to perform at a high level while fueling them with the same unhealthy mix of salt, fats, sugar, and convenience that we got away with when we were 22.

The food we eat can do more than fill our stomachs. It can be medicine. It can provide energy. It can help reduce stress, improve sleep, support heart health, and keep us active enough to enjoy the years we've earned.

The good news is that you don't have to make dramatic changes overnight. Small adjustments add up. Drink more water. Eat a few more vegetables. Choose healthier options when you can. Progress beats perfection every time.

And if you're not sure where to start, consider reaching out to a local nutrition coach, dietitian, or health professional. Asking for guidance isn't weakness. It's the same as consulting the manual or relying on an experienced NCO. You use the resources available to accomplish the mission.

We've spent years taking care of our country, our families, and our communities.

Today, take a few minutes to take care of yourself.

The mission isn't over yet.
