The 2025 Heroes Softball Tournament was so much fun! This year’s event was in memory of Morrow County Deputy Weston Sherrer and it was an honor to have his family, fiancé, friends, and colleagues there!

Mayor Starr spoke inspiring words at the start of the ceremony and our own Chaplain Bob Durbin gave the invocation, with Ava Burns doing the National Anthem.

All of this was made possible by our title sponsor, Specialty Outdoor Services. Thank you Mike Pryjda and Wendy Brown!

Kokosing is our newest partner in this event and we are so grateful for their sponsorship. With their generosity and the added support of MVNU Athletics, Assistant Athletic Director Paul McNeal, the Woodward Opera House, Dena Hess, and the MVPD and Chief Robert K. Morgan, this event is sure to carry on for years to come.

Special thanks to Abide Academy for providing fun crafts for the kids and Bouncin’ Butterflies for the bounce houses!

If you missed it, be sure to watch for it next year. Come out and cheer, whether for the MVPD, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, or for the Mount Vernon Fire Department. These players have a lot of fun and play hard!

Congratulations to MVFD, who retain the championship belt as this year’s winner. Great job.

Hope to see you next year!

Training today was a success! Officers and chaplains from around the state and as far away as Detroit took part, with Ohio officers earning 4 CPT’s as part of their continuing education requirements.
It took months of planning, but it was worth it!
We are very grateful for the support of VFW of Ohio Charities Post 4027, who recognized the value of training and made this possible.
Special thanks to Joe Curran and Wendy’s for delicious food for our attendees, and to Lakeholm Church of the Nazarene for their incredible facilities.
The second half of the day was especially memorable, thanks to the MTV Arts. This team of talented actors came out to fill roles in our scenario portion of the training. It was incredible!
We are grateful for the support of the Mount Vernon Police Department, Chief Morgan, and Lt. Young, who developed and submitted the curriculum to the state. Lt. Young has been recognized for his scenario-based training program in the past and he did not disappoint with this one!
Chaplains Jerry and Lucian worked hard to put this together. We are blessed to have them as chaplains in our community.
Special thanks to Brian Daniel for demonstrating his acting skills during our working lunch!
