On Saturday, April 26, 2014, the Historic Village was open to visitors for our annual Spring Festival. This year, the Village surprised the public with its new look, one which is still under construction. We have removed a number of trees, primarily pines, to safeguard our structures and to open the area to more light. In doing so, we have added space that may be used in the future to showcase other historic structures.
On Saturday, we also welcomed a new friend as Rod Elkins brought with his two adult goats, a two-week old baby goat. The baby had lost its mother and is being hand raised. It was friendly and was a hit with visitors.
We also had a less welcome guest--a small rat snake that poked its head out from a fireplace in the Cooper-Conner house, and which rapidly decided that life was more peaceful outside the house.
The Historic Village is open twice a year with a fall and spring festival featuring crafts and animals. We also open the houses on request with advance notice.
