Mount Vernon, Texas Animal Shelter The Mount Vernon Animal Shelter is happy to match available pets with loving families. The Shelter is run by the City of Mount Vernon, TX.

The Mount Vernon, TX Animal Shelter is the temporary home for dogs and cats in Franklin County. We are in partnership with PAWS of Franklin Co., TX, a 501c3 organization and the citizens of Franklin County. We strive to reunite every pet with its family. In the event a pet isn't reclaimed within three days, animals are available for adoption. Shelter hours are M-F 8:00am-5:00pm. Please call the shelter at 903-588-3030 to report your missing pet or to make arrangements to view animals.

People can be scary for Freckles, but he’s already making progress outside the shelter. We know there’s a brave, happy boy in there just waiting to shine. 🥹

🐾 A little change of plans, with the same big heart for our animals. ❤️
After much thought, we have decided to move our November adoption event to the spring. This wasn’t an easy decision, because we were looking forward to bringing everyone together for our shelter animals.
Over the past several weeks, we have participated in two adoption events and have been working on our new partnership with Operation Kindness. These opportunities mean so much for the animals in our care, but alongside our daily shelter responsibilities, they have left us with less time to give this event the preparation and attention it deserves.
With the short planning window, we also hadn’t received the participation and responses needed to bring the event together as we had hoped. Several factors went into this decision, and we believe allowing more time will give us the best opportunity to make it successful.

🐾 I’m a sweet, intact male looking for my way back home! I was found running loose around the Love’s Truck Stop area near I-30. I don’t have a microchip, but I was wearing an orange collar with no tags.

🐾 Meet Chance and Mercy. Two little lives deserving of everything their names represent. ❤️

This brother and sister were dumped together out in the county,left behind when they deserved to be loved. Whatever happened before they were found, they still had each other. 💔

We can’t change the beginning of their story, but together, we can help write what comes next.

We named him Chance because he deserves one. A chance to belong. A chance to feel safe. A chance to learn that a family means love that stays.

We named her Mercy because someone’s decision to leave her behind should never be the end of her story. She deserves someone who sees a life worth loving. Someone who will reach for her with gentle hands, make room for her, and keep choosing her long after the day they bring her home.

One day, we hope being left on that county road will be only a small part of their story, followed by years of being safe, wanted, and deeply loved.

Mercy is choosing compassion when you have the power to cause pain. These babies never did anything to deserve being abandoned, but someone held their little lives in their hands and chose to leave them behind.

Now someone else has the power to choose kindness,to offer safety, open a home, and love them for the rest of their lives.

Give Chance the chance he deserves. Show Mercy the compassion she should have known all along. ❤️🐾

Last week, we were blessed to participate in the PetSense adoption event at Petsense Sulphur Springs

We’re thrilled to share that the three pups we brought with us Carrie, Kelly, and Dobby, found wonderful homes! 🏡 We were touched by the special bonds formed between each pup and their new family especially Dobby who opened up completely when she met her special person. ❤️

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, purchased raffle tickets, and opened their homes to a new furry family member!

A special thank-you to the PetSense team for being so kind and welcoming. We couldn’t have asked for better hosts! 🐶💕
