For those who missed our in-person speaker event with Chris Morgan earlier this month: it looks like Chris will also be speaking at the Seattle REI this coming Saturday, October 17th. See his post below for details and to purchase tickets.

Looking forward to this event this Saturday!

Join me at REI in Seattle where I’ll be giving a live presentation with stories and clips from life in the wild. It’s all in support of an incredible local conservation organization called Home Range - a team of women-led biologists who study and protect Canada lynx, black bears and many others in the North Cascades.

Hope to SEE YOU for this fun and inspiring evening: REI Seattle
THIS Saturday October 17th at 6pm.

Two weeks ago, Birch & David, stewards of Dog Woods, hosted a fundraiser to support CSYC's mission. A MASSIVE hóy7sxwq'e, tigʷicid, and thank you to Birch, David, the many volunteers, donors, and attendees who made it happen.

We enjoyed a delicious salmon and frybread lunch with many homemade treats, locally crafted syrups (harvested and made by our awesome staff member, Emma), and finished the meal with Birch & David's doug fir syrup over Lopez Creamery ice cream. YUM! We left with our bellies and hearts full 💚

In addition, our hands go up to the tribal artists, elders, and Watermark Book Co., who donated items to our silent auction.

If you couldn't attend, don't worry! We plan to host more community events like this, and you can always support our mission by donating on our website ✨ https://www.coastsalishyouth.org/donate-csyc

Join Skagit Land Trust next week at Utopia Conservation Area for a day spent outside!

During this volunteer work party we will be improving access to the Skagit River and removing invasive species. This Conservation Area provides vital habitat for many of our iconic Skagit County species, and is used as a site for environmental education in the Spring.

We hope you are able to join us!

These photos were taken during some recent community walks that our staff led at Yudwasta Big Rock Park.

Skagit Land Trust and partners helped Skagit County to expand, protect, and reopen public access to this County Park earlier this year.

If you haven't paid Big Rock a visit, fall is a beautiful time to get up there and check it out!

Two weeks ago the Kulshan Creek Community Youth Group traveled down south to visit the Woodland Park Zoo! Every year this field trip gets our participants excited about animals. The Zoo does an amazing job harnessing the excitement surrounding wildlife to conservation!

We are grateful for the support of the Woodland Park Zoo to our program and for the continuous partnerships with Catholic Community Services of Western Washington and Mount Vernon Police Department - WA, that make this work possible. 💚

Skagit Land Trust staff returned from Denver last week, where we joined land trust colleagues from across the country for the 2026 Land Trust Alliance Rally.

This large conference offered a rich variety of field trips and educational sessions on topics such as wildlife corridors, communication strategies, youth programming, community forests, river conservation, indigenous partnerships, mapping, conservation easement monitoring, disaster preparedness, tax law, artificial intelligence, and foraging!

Our staff made the most of our visit to the mile high city by adding a few wonderful (and sometimes weird) extracurricular excursions. These adventures included the immersive sci-fi art experience Meow Wolf, exploration of the eccentric restaurant and activity center Casa Bonita, and a Mariners vs. Rockies game at Coors Field.

At our staff meeting this week, staff shared how we felt professionally enriched and inspired by colleagues from all across the nation -- as well as more bonded as a team here at SLT. Many thanks to LTA and everyone who contributed to our rewarding trip to Denver!

Last chance to join our guided walk at Yudwasta Big Rock Park tomorrow, Thursday, 9/24! See previous post for details.
