Committed partners and volunteers are the engine behind the work. Each month, volunteers manage our online programming, staff our in-person events, support administration and governance, plan and coordinate events, assist with accounting and financial operations, marketing and communications, tax preparation and compliance, technology, outreach, business development, resource navigation, community engagement, and so much more. Their time and professional expertise turn ideas into services, programs, connections, and opportunities for businesses within our area.

🚨 AI NEWS: Microsoft is drawing a line in the sand.

Today, Microsoft released a 37-page draft titled, "Humanist AI Code of Conduct" and its central message is simple:

People matter more than AI.

The newly printed proposed rules say in practical terms, says its AI should not:

Resist being shut down
Set its own goals or act in its own self-interest
Hide its reasoning from human auditors
Operate beyond human understanding
Assist with weapons, dangerous substances, violent content, or sexually explicit material
Be designed to imitate consciousness or claim rights, personhood, or welfare

This reflects a growing industry debate: How fast should AI advance when the ability to evaluate, monitor, and control increasingly capable systems may not be keeping pace?

Microsoft is not calling for AI development to stop. Instead, it says it is willing to compromise on building an AI that is fundamentally useful and safe. The company is also seeking public feedback for six weeks before publishing a revised code later this year.

For business leaders, designers, workforce professionals, educators and everyday users, the question is no longer whether AI will reshape how we work. It is:

Who defines the rules and what human values will those rules protect?
