Search and Rescue in Skagit County The teams of Skagit Search & Rescue seek to preserve life and health through training, search and rescue techniques and proactive education.

Our page is here to help provide information about the search and rescue teams in Skagit County. For over 50 years, Skagit search and rescue teams have served Skagit County as an integral and irreplaceable component of the community. Search and rescue missions are performed under the direction of the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office with minimal cost to the public. Most members must provide their ow

n transportation and all of their own personal gear. In addition to joint training sessions, personnel undergo intensive training in search operations and rescue procedures as well as wilderness survival and first aid. The teams of Skagit search & rescue rely heavily on donations made by the general public to purchase the needed equipment and to attend professional training. To make a donation we encourage you to contact the desired team directly! None of the teams solicit donations via phone or contract with any organization to do so on their behalf. If you receive a phone call from any organization claiming to do so, please get details of who is calling, from where and what they are doing, then pass that information along to us so we can attempt to stop the fraudulent efforts that are being made in the name of Search and Rescue. Come out tomorrow to this great event open to the public. Several search and rescue teams will be there to talk about search and rescue as well as show off some of the gear and equipment that used during a mission.

Just a heads up if in the area of Bowman Bay and Deception Pass this afternoon.

This afternoon we will be conducting a training exercise in the deception pass area. Anticipate marine, ground, mountain rescue, and K9 team activity in the area. This training is valuable in allowing our teams to work collaboratively and remain mission ready for our community.

On July 5, 2026, deputies with the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Mount Vernon Police Department - WA in the search for a missing person. The individual was identified as a 21-year-old male with functional limitations.

After the subject’s vehicle was located abandoned, deputies requested the assistance of Skagit County Search and Rescue volunteers to aid in the search. The area consisted of dense, heavily wooded terrain, requiring the specialized training and capabilities of Search and Rescue personnel.

During the operation, Search and Rescue K-9 teams located personal items belonging to the missing individual and, shortly thereafter, successfully located him. He was transported to a nearby medical facility for evaluation and was later reunited with his family.

This incident highlights the critical role and dedication of our Search and Rescue volunteers. Their continued commitment, along with the exceptional work of the K-9 handler and her partner, “Mo” (pictured below), demonstrates the invaluable service they provide to the citizens of Skagit County.

MISSING: 27-year-old Ruth is missing from her family member’s residence located in the 30100 block of E. Scouten Loop in Arlington. She was last seen at 6pm Tuesday, May 5. She is an avid hiker and has been spending a lot of time hiking in the area nearby the residence.

She is 5‘3“ tall and weighs about 150 pounds. She has reddish brown hair that is wavy and drops below her shoulders. She was last seen wearing a long sleeve thin, off–white shirt with gray leggings and cowboy boots. Search and rescue has been in the area since last night. They are continuing their search efforts today. If you see Ruth, please call 911 immediately. Via
