I’ve been spending some time in 2 Samuel 13 this week, and honestly, it’s not an easy chapter to read. David’s family is falling apart, and as I’ve studied the story, I keep coming back to one thing: our kids need us.

They need our attention. They need our presence. And most importantly, they need us to disciple them.

The reality is that our kids are going to be influenced by someone. They’re watching us, listening to us, and learning from us every day. The question is, who is shaping them?

That’s not just a question for parents. It’s a question for all of us as a church.

I want us to think about what it looks like to make disciples in our homes and in our church. Parents discipling children. Older Christians investing in younger Christians. Leaders raising up new leaders. All of us helping someone else take another step closer to Jesus.

Because discipleship isn't something we just talk about at church. It’s something we live out.

I’m especially excited about this Sunday because I think this is a conversation we need to have together. We’re not just trying to build a church for today. We want to be a church that prepares the next generation to follow Jesus and make Him known.

Have you ever broken something that you weren’t sure could ever be fixed?

Maybe it was a relationship. Maybe it was a decision you wish you could take back. Maybe it was something someone did to you. Or maybe you’ve just felt so broken that you wondered if God could really do anything with your life.

This Sunday at MVCC, we’re going to look at 2 Samuel 12:26–31 and David’s story of brokenness, failure, repentance, and restoration. David had sinned. His choices had consequences. His family was hurting. But his story wasn’t over.

David went to Rabbah, put the crown back on his head, and kept walking—not because he had everything figured out, but because God wasn’t finished with him.

And maybe that’s exactly what some of us need to hear.

Our brokenness does not have to be the end of our story, because God can restore what sin, failure, and brokenness have damaged.

God doesn’t throw broken people away. He restores them. And sometimes, He restores us so that we can become part of someone else’s restoration story.

This Sunday at MVCC, we’re talking about something we all need—but sometimes struggle to fully understand: forgiveness.

Psalm 32 reminds us that there is incredible joy in knowing that our sins are forgiven, our guilt is covered, and our debt has been paid through Jesus.

But there’s another side to forgiveness. Anger, bitterness, resentment, and even the anger we carry toward ourselves can keep us from experiencing the freedom God wants to give us.

We are forgiven. We are free. And that should bring us joy!

David ends Psalm 32 with these words:

“Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, O righteous, and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!” — Psalm 32:11

Come worship with us this Sunday as we talk about the Joy of Forgiveness and what it means to live as people who have been forgiven by God and are learning to forgive others.

What do you do when life hurts, when you’ve messed up, when you’re hurting? What do you do when you’re walking through something you never thought you would have to face?

David learned something that we all need to learn: God is always there. His love is always present. His forgiveness is always available. His grace never runs out.

In 2 Samuel 12 and Psalm 32, we see David experience incredible loss, deep pain, guilt, and failure. But through it all, David develops what I’m calling “God permanence”—the confidence that God doesn’t disappear when life gets hard.

David says, “Steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the Lord.”

That’s good news for all of us.

Maybe you’re carrying guilt or grief, or you’re walking through a difficult season. Maybe you simply need to be reminded that God is still there.

Have you ever been caught? Maybe not with your hand in the cookie jar, but caught by your own sin, pride, or the realization that you've wandered farther from God than you ever intended?

This Sunday at MVCC, we're walking through 2 Samuel 12 and Psalm 51 as we look at one of the most heartbreaking—and hope-filled—moments in David's life.

David was a man after God's own heart, but even he allowed pride to blind him. Yet when he was confronted with the truth, he discovered something every one of us needs to know: God doesn't reject a humble, repentant heart. He restores it.

If you've ever wondered:
• Can God forgive what I've done?
• Is it too late to come back?
• How do I experience the joy of my salvation again?

Then this Sunday is for you.

We'll discover that repentance isn't about shame—it's about returning home to the grace of God. Psalm 51 reminds us that God can create a clean heart, renew a right spirit, and restore the joy we've lost.

No matter where you've been this week, you don't have to carry the weight alone. Come worship with us as we celebrate the grace of Jesus, open His Word together, and allow the Holy Spirit to do what only He can do.
