Barony of Arandor

Barony of Arandor A medievalist society within the Empire of Medieval Pursuits (EMP). Located mainly in the Skagit County of Washington State.

Arandor encourages exploration and reproduction of period art and culture in several ways. We have many skilled craftsmen who make furniture and tents for our camping and armor smiths who craft and forge the armor of our fighters. At our encampments and events you will find talented cooks preparing food and drink for our citizens, talented singers and upcoming musicians telling tales of valiant kn

ights, drunken sailors, and bawdy wenches. If you have a desire to learn or share an art or talent, the Freehold has a home for you. The Barony's martial origins come from a deep study of period fencing manuals, primarily Fiore’s Flower of Battle. We encourage study of period martial text to begin to rebuild the martial traditions of Europe that have been lost to us, in doing so warriors of Arandor can often be found sparring and training with blunted steel weapons working through plays of the ancient masters. Arandor also fields a standing army to defend itself, fighting in the Behordium tradition of the EMP, using rattan weapons and heavy armor to simulate large medieval melee combat.

You might be curious if there is a reason why our knights all wear a yellow belt. There is! It is, in fact, the Knight of the Storm badge of office alongside their tabard and the knight's chain.
The belt is yellow to match the lightning bolts of Stormhold, and it is studded with the Tower and the Lightning Swords - symbols of Storm Knights.

Symbolism like this was critical in medieval times. It was how people were able to tell one's social status without access to constant personal information through social media. So if you see someone wearing one of these belts, know that they have earned the title of Knight and should be referred to as Sir (as a gender neutral term).

Fighter practice this Sunday looks to be quite busy judging by the county discord poll. Remember, you can't improve if you don't practice! See you at Hillcrest Park in Mt. Vernon.

✨On Saturday, we gathered for the Arandor Encampment Beautification Project, focusing on the creation of silk banners to add color and presence to our encampment.

It was a wonderful afternoon of stringing silk, painting designs, and sharing good company.

If you have any questions about making silk banners, feel free to drop them below!

"Non Ad Regendum Ducit Ad Serviendum" is the motto of Arandor. It holds true the founding principles of our branch from before we were large enough to be a Barony. Leadership in Arandor is not a position of power, but one of responsibility. Responsibility for all the citizens of Arandor old and new and ensuring they all have what they need to thrive as citizens of Ardesca.
