One of the most exciting parts of the New Room project was reuniting one of the garniture vases, gifts to Washington from Samuel Vaughan, with its missing handle!

The vase had long had reproduction handles, but one of the originals was found during an archaeological excavation on the Mansion's west front. We were able to mend the original handle back to the vase, as well as use it to create a more accurate replica for the other side. Great things happen when archaeologists, conservators, and curators work together!

Today the press got a sneak peek of George Washington’s newly restored New Room. Keep your eyes peeled on local news stations ABC 7 News - WJLA, NBC Washington, NewsChannel 8, and WUSA 9 tonight—the New Room will be making a guest appearance!

And don’t forget that the New Room opens to the public tomorrow, March 22.

Stop by to see the results of more than a year's worth of research, conservation, and restoration work, and don't miss Washington's original artwork, some of which will only be on view through Memorial Day.
