Central Maine Team Penning Association

Central Maine Team Penning Association Maine Team Penning and Ranch Sorting Team penning was started in California in the 1950s and reached this area of the country in the 1990s.
(1)

Riders of all ages from youths to "seniors" and of all levels of experience compete. You'll see riders competing on horses of all breeds and
disciplines from the backyard family horse, to the trained, cow-bred, Quarter Horse! Team penning is a family sport, aimed at having fun with friends and your horse! The competition pits thirty cattle against three riders to determine if the riders can pull t

he right three cows from the herd, push them down the arena, and put them in the pen faster than any of the other teams. Riders are successful when the cattle are penned. If the allotted time expires, or too many cattle cross the foul line, the result is a “no time”.

Good Evening,

I apologize for the late post. I had hoped that by waiting a few more days I would have some alternative news. Unfortunately, the current state of the CMTPA Elections has not changed. We did not receive any communications regarding a willingness to occupy a position for the 2022 season.

Therefore, the meeting will take place on December 5th. At 1:00 pm, at North Country Harley Davidson – 3099 N Belfast Ave, Augusta Maine 04330.

At this meeting we will hold two critical IN PERSON membership votes, after reviewing the treasures report and taking attendance.

#1- A request put to the membership, to allow the current Officials and BOD who are in good standings till 12/31/2021, to deviate from the original by-laws set forth more than 20 years ago, dictating that upon disbursement, the clubs assets are to be liquidated and a monetary donation is to be made to another non-profit entity; And rather, the assets be directly donated to organizations/businesses/clubs who are currently providing access to cattle events for Maine Riders in an attempt to support the opportunity for the sport to continue in different venues absent of club oversight.

#2 An official call for CMTPA Disbursement.

It is important that if you have any questions, concerns, or input regarding this that you attend in person. We will we refrain from responding to direct inquires via the page, as all conversations and discussion should be conducted with full transparency, with all voting membership present. We will not have an alternative ballot processing procedure. We will conduct in-person voting following ample time for discussion.

I sincerely hope to see all available members at this meeting so that you may all reach a decision that you are comfortable and satisfied with.

It has been a pleasure for us to provide what activities we were able to this past year, and sincerely hope to be standing beside you in one arena or the other in 2022.

Good Morning All,

I write to your this morning, because it is time to pass the proverbial torch. That's right, it's time to perform the Call for Nominations for mandatory upcoming elections.

I know that I speak for all the vacating officials, when I say that we are incredibly PROUD of the work we have done. Being at the helm of any organization during a nontraditional transition like was seen at the end of 2019 is challenge in and of itself; but facing the expiration of the promoter contract during a global pandemic were variables that no one could have foreseen. The small group that stayed the course, worked tirelessly and endlessly to be able to offer the abbreviated season that we did in 2021. I hope you all understand the magnitude of these accomplishments. We also hope that you found joy throughout the summer events we were able to offer.

Now, it is time for the next set of dedicated individuals to be found, so that they may use the time to prepare for 2022. There is much to be done. There are many decisions that will need to be made. There is much sweat and elbow grease needed, to keep CMTPA moving back towards its former self.

Therefore, please consider this the official Call for Nominations for the following positions:

PRESIDENT -
VICE PRESIDENT -
TREASURER-

If you would like to be considered to fill one of these critical roles, please submit your intent in writing via email to the email listed above. Please clearly indicate which position you would like to run for. The time frame for this submission will be from today, till Saturday, November 20th at 8 PM.

On Sunday November 21st, the candidates will be announced via this page and the ballots will be created.

On Sunday December 5th, we will have an in person membership meeting, to hold a vote via ballot, tally all ballots and determine the new officials. Please look for the details about location and time for this meeting over the next few weeks, but save the date.

On November 21st, we will have ballots available online that can be printed, and you may mail them in. They will be collected and travel with us to the meeting where they will be added to the in person tally.

In all cases, you must be a current member to vote. If you did not renew your membership this summer, you may mail your 2021 membership form and dues with the ballot, or become a 2021 member at the December 5th meeting. (Please remember, you do not have to be a member to attend the December Meeting.)

I sincerely hope that fresh energy can be found to continue this sport in the state of Maine. I also hope that if you see any of the vacating officials that you take a moment to thank them for the service they offered. It has been a pleasure to see you all working cows this year.

Pen 3!

*****10/17 RANCH SORTING HAS BEEN CANCELLED****

Good Evening,

Unfortunately, it is necessary that we cancel the last event that we had scheduled for this 2021 Year. Anyone who was at the last event will surely tell you that the accessible parking for rigs was SOG-GY! In fact, many rigs had to be pulled out in order to travel home. The recent rains, and the lack of drying sunshine and warm temperatures, mean that the field is even softer! We certainly don't need to damage the critical hay fields for years to come. We also wanted to make this announcement as soon as possible so that folks could make alternative plans for that day. We hope you can find something fun! I hear Cimarron has a fun day planned.... ;-)

While it is not the end to the year that we wanted, I am proud of the abbreviated season that we were able to offer as we transition to the future of Maine Team Penning. I anticipate that there will be big news, opportunities and decisions to be made as we start looking towards a 2022 Season. Please keep checking back for updates and next steps, where the input of the membership will be sought.

In the mean time - Stay in the leather. Stay safe and warm, and Pen3!
