The troop headed out yesterday to the Pacific Crest Trail for a 7 day hike to the Canadian border and back

The Scouts had another PCT prep hike. This time was a 2 day weekend trip up to Ross Lake-Big Beaver Creek for a 24 mile hike. Next hike is the Pacific Crest Trail in July

Today the Fire Mountain Family mourns the loss of our long time friend, neighbor and staffer and volunteer Jim Ross. Jim served as an instrumental part of the life of Fire Mountain for decades as a key part of the maintenance and building of many facilities at camp. Frequently he could be found on an excavator, swinging a hammer, putting up a new building, counseling with a scout, or driving the waterski boat pulling scouts and staff around Big Lake. Many projects in camp were completed because of the “Jim Ross Dollar Stretcher” as he found creative ways to finish a project, even when there was limited funding. Jim’s life is a monument to Scouting - his example of the Scout oath and law is legendary in Walker Valley.

Jim is the recipient of Silver Beaver Award and the prestigious Fire Mountain Lifetime Achievement Award. Jim served in a host of leadership roles Scouting and made is mark as a long time member of the council Executive Board. What Jim will be remembered for most was the way he treated young people. He was always willing to teach, coach and encourage scouts around camp, even if he was busily working to finish a project on an ever approaching deadline – he always had time to be kind. Our hearts go out to the Ross family as they mourn the loss of their father and grandfather- thank you for sharing your Dad with us! We will miss our friend, but we feel the fire of his life of love and service burn brightly in our hearts.

We did another year putting up American flags on all the veterans graves today. This tradition started by a Boy Scout many many years ago and we keep it going. Thank you Hawthorne Funeral Home and Memorial Park for always being so kind and feeding us 🇺🇸💙
