Looking for a trail that offers a little bit of everything? The Tanbark Loop trail delivers a short but surprisingly intense workout with nice views.

Winding through quiet woods, this moderately difficult scenic loop offers a little bit of everything.. starting with gentle climbs, followed by steep, rugged ascents and descents, and the kind of stillness that makes you slow down and take it all in.

Spring is an especially great time to explore, with fresh greenery popping, birdsong echoing through the trees, and that crisp mountain air that just feels good to breathe.

Be sure to wear sturdy boots for traction, bring plenty of water, and take your time to take in all the Catskills has to offer.

Catskill Trail Conditions | May 29 - May 31

This weekend in the Catskills, we’ll see partly cloudy skies along with mild temperatures settling across the region. Friday will be partly cloudy with increased clouds and a slight chance of a rain shower as the day progresses. Cloudy skies linger early Saturday morning, with partial clearing expected later into the day. Heading into Sunday, partly cloudy skies in the morning will give way to cloudy skies during the afternoon. Overall, it’s shaping up to be a pleasant late-spring weekend here in the Catskills. Even with warmer temps, don’t skip the layers. Cool mornings can turn into warm afternoons, so dressing in layers helps keep you comfortable all day.

This week’s trail conditions are sponsored by Columbia Memorial Health.

Trail Conditions & Tips:
• Bring extra water: warmer temperatures and climbing elevation can dehydrate you faster than expected.
• Start hikes early: you’ll enjoy cooler temperatures, quieter trails, and better parking at popular trailheads.
• Wear light-colored clothing: it makes it easier to spot ticks before they attach and can also help keep you cooler.
• Check for ticks after your hike: late spring is peak tick season in the Catskills, so inspect clothing, gear, and pets carefully after spending time outdoors.

🌤️Friday: Partly cloudy skies. Slight chance of a rain shower. High near 72°F, low 46°F.

🌥️Saturday: Cloudy skies early will become partly cloudy later in the day. High near 61°F, low 44°F.

🌥️Sunday: Some sun in the morning with increasing clouds during the afternoon. High 71°F, low 52°F.

Catskill Trail Conditions | May 22 - May 24

The Catskills are in for a soggy weekend, with occasional rain showers moving in Saturday afternoon and continuing through Sunday. Friday will start with intervals of sunshine and clouds before overcast conditions settle in by the afternoon, with rain arriving Saturday afternoon into Sunday. Trails are expected to be muddy, especially in lower elevations. If you’re heading outdoors, remember to protect yourself from ticks: stay in the center of the trail, wear light-colored clothing, tuck your pants into socks and shirts into waistbands, and perform regular tick checks on your clothing, skin, and gear.

This week’s trail conditions are sponsored by Bread Alone Bakery

Trail Conditions & Tips:
• Hydrate: Don’t wait until you hit the trail to start drinking. Begin drinking plenty of water the day before your hike, and hydrate frequently during the hike to stay hydrated.
• Beat the heat: Start your hikes very early in the morning or later in the evening. Avoid peak heat hours, which typically fall between 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM.
• Choose light-colored clothing: Wearing light colors that reflect the sun's rays rather than absorb them (as dark colors can) helps keep you cool. Look for shirts, shorts and pants in white, tan or khaki.
• Be tick aware: Stick to the center of the trail, and avoid brushing against tall grass, brush, and leaf litter where ticks love to hang out. Be sure to perform a thorough tick check of yourself, your clothing, and your gear, post-hike.

🌥️Friday: Intervals of clouds and sunshine in the morning with more clouds for later in the day. High near 66°F, low 48°F.

🌧️Saturday: Considerable cloudiness. Occasional rain showers in the afternoon. High near 52°F, low 45°F.

🌧️Sunday: A steady rain in the morning. Showers continuing in the afternoon. High 56°F, low 50°F.

Catskill Trail Conditions | May 15 - May 17

The Catskills are finally starting to warm up this weekend. Friday begins cool and overcast, but temperatures steadily warm heading into Saturday and Sunday, with highs climbing into the mid to upper 70s and low 80s under a mix of sun and clouds. It’s shaping up to be a beautiful weekend to get outside, though recent rain means many trails will still be muddy and slick in places.

As warmer weather settles in, spring wildlife activity also ramps up across the Catskills. From amphibians and insects to nesting birds, many species are especially active this time of year, so be mindful while exploring and help protect the ecosystems that make these forests so special.

Trail Conditions & Tips:
• Bring plenty of water: Warmer weekend temperatures can make exposed hikes feel much hotter than expected.
• Wear proper footwear: Trails can be slick and muddy. Waterproof boots with good traction can make a big difference.
• Stay on trail: it may be tempting to walk around mud, but that widens trails and damages ecosystems. Go straight through when possible.
• Watch for wildlife activity: Warmer temperatures mean increased activity for amphibians, insects, and birds throughout the forest.
• Be tick aware: Ticks become active in spring. Use repellent, wear long sleeves and pants, and check for ticks regularly.

Weather Forecast:

🌥 Friday: Overcast. Slight chance of a rain shower. High near 61°F, low 47°F.

🌞 Saturday: Mostly sunny skies. Much warmer.. High near 76°F, low 60°F.

🌤 Sunday: Sunshine and clouds mixed. High 82°F, low 57°F.
