Life feels heavy for so many right now. We are needing to shore up our giving so that the 50+ families visiting us weekly will find the resources they need. The love? Looking for experienced event helpers with know-how —we have a plan — we need help sourcing things! Garden plants/flowers, cozy outdoor space with a few seating options, umbrellas or ?

CURRENT NEEDS: Choices in both north and south locations are in need of strollers, toddler and booster seats. Swings, stationery exersaucers/activity centers (not walkers).

Diapers in all sizes are a need, though 4 through 7 are most requested - shipped to you and brought in, or shipped to us (delivered behind our building). Baby wipes as well - fragrant free/sensitive.

For those who might think that cloth diapers are less expensive that is true, however many mamas need to work, and child care (if it can be found) often do not allow cloth diapers. Many families do not have washer/dryers. It's complicated to make life work these days.

Shipping address: Choices 1124 Pine Grove Drive Mount Shasta, CA 96067, and/or 409 N. Main St. Yreka, CA 96097 (Best times for delivery - if possible - are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday between 11-3).

Another option is to just bypass all the hassle of ordering and shipping, and donate funds via our Venmo QR code (see comment) or via PayPal or Google Pay to [email protected].

Alas, I originally wanted to create a fancy schmancy attractive diaper and other needs flyer and project, but time hasn't allowed that - we're super busy! If you can help with just a little or you can help with more, it's all benefitting local families trying to breathe and find hope through all the current challenges.

Bottom line? Local families need a village to surround them with love and resources. Our communities are better when we care well for all. ❤

Mt. Shasta location.

Please! Choices does not have the capacity to take your things to the dump. It’s so disheartening to show up expecting an empty garbage can, to find items that won’t even fit in our can. We are a very low-budget nonprofit, with no extra people, time nor funds to do your hauling. We NEED our garbage can space!

We are overwhelmed.

Obviously this wasn’t a donation - it was dumped on top of and next to the trash can. None of these items are usable to us.

(We welcome new and gently used items in very good condition. Most folks give us a call to check first - others know what we accept, and bring them. And we are so grateful.)

What this tells us is that you think we have the time, energy, and money to handle this. We don’t. This is not a service we provide.

If anyone out there has the interest and ability to include this in your own dump run, we’d sincerely appreciate it. Just roll on up and take it - it’s behind our space at 1124 Pine Grove Drive, Mount Shasta. It’s not large but it’s too much for us - we have way too many other responsibilities. Much gratitude. 

We have our hands full caring for those needing resources, hope and help. 😢❤️‍🩹

45 Families.

Forty-five families were welcomed at Choices Yreka last week. I need to repeat myself again: 45 families came in for support.

What types?
Formula
Emergency food
Diapers & wipes
Spring & summer clothing for littles
Kindness and compassion
Support for an ongoing medical crisis
Lunch with volunteer advocates
Engaging in volunteer-led age appropriate games and play for littles

The revolving door of loving one another is in full swing at 409 N. Main St. in Yreka. Compassion in action is the way life is nurtured at Choices.

We welcome.
We listen.
We share.
We love.

And sometimes we laugh together because there is almost always a guest who needs a bit of humor - and yes, even in the midst of challenges, there can be - not always - laughter. I'm willing to bet laughter and joy showed up among more than a few of the 45 guests! Gratefulness often looks like happiness.

Choices Mt. Shasta Note:
Yesterday I posted about a need of volunteers at Choices Mt. Shasta - and here's an example of why...if one of us ill, out of town, or has another meeting etc., we cannot open if no one is available. We've all experienced the feeling when you arrive at a place and they're closed - frankly, it's happening more often these days. It's happening to us next Wednesday, May 27th.

Thing is, we detest being closed because our guests are often in the midst of challenging circumstances and depend on us to be open. So, yes, please revisit that post from yesterday, and consider whether you might be a good fit. Truth is, Choices is a delightful way to spend a few hours encouraging others while they pick up needs.

PLEASE NOTE: Next Wednesday, May 27th, Choices in Mt. Shasta will be closed as we have no staff available. As well, we will only have one staffer on Thursday. Please be kind and patient with her. We are always doing our best - and we're human too. ❤

Heads up! Mount Shasta is in need of volunteer advocates to welcome families at Choices on either Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday...from 11:00 - 3:00. It's also possible to join us for two hours of those times. Consistency is what we need so we're able to staff our days.

We're looking for women who are relationally generous: sharing acts of kindness, and having the ability to extend oneself to others in compassion with confidentiality and without agenda.

We can always use help processing donated items, and deciding what other parents might be able to use.

Several of our parents have offered, (and we love that you have offered), but it is too challenging to create a safe and peaceful space with littles running around - funny enough, that happens sometimes with guests! (We're working on solutions!) We've had increasing conversations of care, with some folks in the midst of hard life places - and wrangling littles can limit those important interactions. That said, it could possibly work for a child of about 6, who responds to the directions of their parent.

Let me know if you are perhaps interested - I'd love a conversation! Thanks for reading - even if you're not able to volunteer, but are curious, I'd love to have an in-person conversation - and you can see firsthand what's happening down here at 1124 Pine Grove Drive in Mount Shasta.
