Meet Pumpkin: a journey from fear to friendship โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ
When Pumpkin first arrived at the shelter, she was overwhelmed.
After her elderly owner could no longer care for her, Pumpkin suddenly found herself in a place she didn't know, surrounded by unfamiliar people, sounds, and routines. She was scared, confused, and unsure if she could trust anyone.
But beneath that fear was a cat who desperately wanted to be loved.
As the days passed, Pumpkin began to settle in. She made friends with the cats around her, started recognizing the people caring for her, and slowly realized she was safe.
Now, Pumpkin greets us with purrs, seeks out attention, loves being held, and happily soaks up all the affection she can get. She's sweet, loving, and full of personality. Like many cats, she appreciates having her boundaries respected and will let you know when she's ready for some quiet time, but she's come such a long way from the frightened cat who first arrived.
Watching Pumpkin learn to trust again has been one of our favorite transformations to witness.
Now all she needs is a family of her own.
Come meet Pumpkin and see just how special she is.

Another animal has found his way into our careโ€”and he needs us.

Meet Sarge.

Sarge recently arrived at Siskiyou Humane Society as a stray. The moment we met him, we knew something wasn't right.

After a veterinary examination, we learned Sarge is facing a heartbreaking list of medical challenges: bilateral corneal ulcers, severe chronic eye disease, significant vision loss, painful dental disease requiring multiple extractions, a suspected foxtail in his ear, skin issues, overgrown nails and paw deformities, and ongoing pain.

Despite everything, Sarge has remained gentle.

The truth is, dogs don't complain when they're hurting. They adapt. They keep going. They learn to live with pain because they have no other choice.

But now Sarge has a choice.

For the first time in a long time, he has a soft bed, regular meals, pain management, veterinary care, and people who are committed to helping him feel better.

We're hoping to raise $2,762 to cover the diagnostics, treatment, dental care, eye care, medications, and follow-up appointments Sarge needs to finally live comfortably.

No dog should have to spend their golden years in pain.

If Sarge's story speaks to you, would you consider making a donation today? Every gift helps bring him closer to comfort, healing, and the quality of life he deserves.

Thank you for helping us show Sarge that his best days may still be ahead of him.

You can donate directly to this post.

๐Ÿพ The best part of animal sheltering? Seeing what happens next. ๐Ÿ’™

Every adoption starts with a goodbye from us, but it's really the beginning of a whole new chapter for the animal.

New routines.
New favorite toys.
New hiking buddies.
New couch spots.
New families.

While we only get to be part of a small piece of their story, we're grateful every day for the adopters who open their homes and hearts to shelter pets.

If you've adopted from Siskiyou Humane Society, we'd love to hear how your pet is doing! Share a photo or update in the comments ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿพ

Did you know cats can become pregnant at just 4 months old?

It's one of the biggest reasons kitten season hits shelters so hard every year.

Right now, we have:
โ€ข 8 kittens ready for adoption at the shelter
โ€ข 7 unweaned kittens in foster care
โ€ข 5 newborn kittens being cared for by their mom here at the shelter

And more are on the way.

We love every single one of these tiny faces. But this is also a reminder of why spaying and neutering matters so much.

Many people are surprised to learn that a kitten can have kittens before she's even fully grown herself.

It happens fast.

One unspayed cat can become several. Then dozens. Then more kittens than shelters, rescues, foster homes, and veterinary clinics can realistically keep up with.

Every kitten deserves a safe place to land. But the truth is, there simply aren't enough homes for all of them.

That's why prevention matters.

If your cat isn't spayed or neutered yet, now is the time to make an appointment.

Looking for low-cost spay/neuter options? Check out:
โ€ข Purr Angels
โ€ข SNIP
โ€ข SNYP (Southern Oregon)

Spaying and neutering helps:
โ€ข Prevent unwanted litters
โ€ข Reduce overcrowding in shelters
โ€ข Improve long-term health
โ€ข Reduce roaming and mating behaviors
โ€ข Save lives

We will always do everything we can for the cats and kittens who come through our doors.

But our goal is a future where fewer kittens have to start their lives in a shelter.

Until then, we'll keep caring for every tiny paw that comes our way.

One of the things we love most about our annual fundraiser Brewfest, is that it truly belongs to the community.

This year, we're proud to be collaborating with incredible local organizations, including Siskiyou Land Trust, Siskiyou Disc Golf Club, Mt. Shasta Rotary, and Mt. Shasta Icebreakers Hockey to help make the 2026 Shasta Mountain Art, Wine, & Brew Festival bigger, better, and more connected than ever.

As Mount Shasta celebrates its 101st anniversary, Brewfest is proud to be part of the Red Hot American Summer festivities that bring our community together. Whether you're here for the music, the food, the vendors, the tasting garden, or simply to spend a beautiful day in the park with friends and family, there's something for everyone.

General admission is FREE.

For those 21+, a $40 Tasting Garden ticket gets you the equivalent of 6 drinks, featuring beer, wine, spirits, and non-alcoholic options from an incredible lineup of brands and makers.

Best of all, every tasting ticket purchased supports shelter pets at our shelter.

Local nonprofits. Local businesses. Local music. Local impact.

This is what community looks like, and we hope you'll be part of it on June 27th, 2-6pm, Shastice Park, Mount Shasta.

Tickets available now: www.shastabrewfest.com

Tug first. Cuddles second. That's the deal. ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’™

Pongo is the kind of dog who likes to keep life balanced.

A little playtime? Absolutely.
A good game of tug? Even better.
A chance to curl up next to his favorite people afterward? Perfect.

This handsome guy has a playful, goofy side that loves toys and games, but he's also incredibly people-oriented and happiest when he gets to spend time with the humans he loves.

Whether you're looking for an adventure buddy, a tug-of-war champion, or a professional couch companion, Pongo is ready to apply for the position ๐Ÿ’™

Interested in meeting Pongo? Submit an adoption application on our website and come spend some time with him yourself ๐Ÿพ

Graduation season is here, and we'd like to introduce a few seniors who are ready for their next chapter. ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŽ“

๐Ÿฑ George, 17
Major: Human Relations

George is the kind of cat who has life figured out. He loves people, enjoys being part of whatever is going on, and has the sweetest little squeak of a meow when he'd like some attention. His dream graduation gift? A cozy bed, a loving lap, and a quiet place to call home.

๐Ÿฑ Checkers, 17
Major: Community Outreach

For over a decade, Checkers watched animals come and go from our shelter parking lot, greeting staff, volunteers, and visitors along the way. Now retired from outdoor life, she's discovered the joys of indoor living and has become our cattery's unofficial welcome committee. She's talkative, affectionate, and ready for a family of her own after years of cheering everyone else on.

๐Ÿฑ Toez, 10
Major: Advanced Relaxation Studies

This fluffy polydactyl gentleman prefers a slower pace. He enjoys window watching, cozy naps, and spending time near the people he trusts. His favorite classmate? Ali, his 4-year-old best friend. These two are bonded and hoping to graduate together into a new home. Thanks to a sponsor, their adoption fees have been waived.

While kittens often steal the spotlight, these seniors have something special: years of experience loving people.

This graduation season, consider a senior.

Their next chapter is waiting. Maybe it's with you. ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿพ
