A moving account from the Grand Lodge of Nebraska, relevant today, as we remember the 81st anniversary of D-Day:

“This very hour, craftsman Hiram Abiff is slain with violence in a thousand localities, and not nearly in pageantry, but in stark and dread reality.”

On the morning of Tuesday, June 6, 1944, while the Allied Armies were landing in Normandy, France, the Grand Lodge of Nebraska opened its annual communication in Omaha. When Grand Master William B. 202 years ago today, the first Grand Lodge of Illinois A. F. & A. M. was founded on brotherhood, integrity, and the eternal pursuit of knowledge.

While this first Grand Lodge ceased operations in 1827 due to the anti-Masonic movement (with the current Grand Lodge being founded in 1840), we remember this institution for laying the groundwork of our fraternity today.
