A special exhibit space will be created to specifically honor Monroe County Pennsylvania veterans. Our Legion Post, Post 903 is currently seeking the public's help with raising funds for a massive project we've currently undertaken. American Legion Post 903 is located in Mt Pocono PA. and was formed ten years ago from the remains of Post 425 in Tannersville PA. Who disbanded due to lack of members

hip. Since our Post inception we've never had an actual Post home. For many years we've been holding our meetings in the basement of a firehouse or the garage of our Commanders home and held all of our ceremonies at our Veterans Memorial off route 611 in Tannersville PA. For many years we've been actively seeking for a piece of property that we can call home. In May of last year we purchased the former St. Mary's of the Mount Parish Church and Rectory off Fairview Ave in Mt Pocono PA. The property will officially be known as the "Thomas Bowditch Veterans Education Center & Museum" in memory of Post 903 Past Commander Thomas Bowditch who passed away in February 2020. Tom was instrumental in forming the Monroe County Joint Veterans Honor Guard and reestablishing Post 903. In the past seven years Monroe County Joint Veterans Honor Guard has performed over 600 funerals and maintained the replacement of American Flags on Veterans graves at twelve different local cemeteries. The church was built in 1908 and the rectory was built in 1913. The property is over hundred years old and has been abandoned for the past seven years and its neglect has caused extensive damage to both buildings. Both building's will require extensive amounts of repairs and renovations to be done to bring them up to code including but not limited to roofing ,masonry, electric, plumbing, HVAC etc.. Our current mission is to renovate both buildings. The church will be turned into an indoor Veterans museum featuring array military artifacts from various conflicts. With an exhibit space to Honor local Monroe County veterans, along with a wall display listing the names of every conflict or war the United States has been involved in during its history. There will also be a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall. The basement of the church will become a hall with a café and will be available for lease as well as a place where local Veterans can host meetings. The rectory will become the home of Post 903 and Monroe County Joint Veterans Honor Guard with office space for various local Veterans organizations. As well as temporary housing for Veterans in need. We're seeking the public's help in soliciting funds to assist our organization in rebuilding these two historic properties to help promote, assist and establish a long needed local Veterans center in Monroe County PA

There was once an old Legionnaire, who hadn't attended their meetings for 20 years. One day they thought they'd go and see what's been going on in their absence. When they arrived they found boards on the windows, and a padlock on the door with a sign saying CLOSED.

As they stood staring at this sad lonely building a younger person walked up and looked along with them.

The elder said; "I was a member here for many years."

The young person replied; "I was the secretary."

"I just can't understand how this organization could have gone dark. I bought my life membership 50 years ago." Said the elder.

To this the young one replied - "Every member here were life members as well."

Puzzled the old man said; "If everyone had life memberships, then what happened? How did it go dark?"

The young man replied; "No one attended the meetings or became involved."

📌My point is just this; It isn't enough to buy a life membership, it isn't enough to pay dues, and it isn't enough to say you're a Member!! You have to attend, get involved, be a mentor, and claim your benefits!!
