📣Mid Central AHEC is proud to announce we have been awarded Rural Health Transformation Program funding for Rural Health Workforce Pipeline & Education Initatives from the MDHHS!

The Mid Central Regional Center looks forward to utilizing the RHTP funding to expand partnerships and develop new collaborations that will allow us to bring more health career exploration programs, job shadowing, and pathway supporting resources to high school students across our region. These enhanced initiatives will allow us to further remove barriers from student’s pathways to health careers and impact the healthcare workforce serving communities across the Mid Central Regional Center region in the years ahead. – Jennifer Morneau-Wilson, Program Manager, Mid Central Regional Center

We are incredibly grateful to receive MDHHS Rural Health Transformation Program funding to expand AHEC’s health careers pipeline and pathway programs. This investment allows us to deepen our work in Michigan’s rural communities—creating meaningful opportunities for students to explore health careers, strengthening local workforce pathways, and ultimately improving access to care in the regions that need it most. We are excited to build on this momentum and partner with communities to inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals. – April Osburn, Executive Director, Central and Western Area Health Education Center.

Dr. Verhey was a co-founding medical student of the Health Careers Pipeline Program that Mid Central AHEC hosts in collaboration with the Covenant HealthCare College of Medicine at CMU. We are thrilled for him to be returning to Michigan after his dedicated training to becoming a neurosurgeon! Congratulations and looking forward to the positive impact you'll have on Michigan communities and members, Dr. Verhey!

Central Michigan University alumnus, Dr. Leonard Verhey, ’18, is the first graduate of the Covenant HealthCare College of Medicine at CMU to become a neurosurgeon.
