We are happy to announce our 2026 DSP of the year, Stephanie Knopsnyder! ANCOR

For 22 years, Stephanie has dedicated her career to supporting individuals through VCS. She began as a DSP, providing quality care across multiple homes before advancing into management. In 2024, she became one of VCS's first NADSP certified frontline supervisors. After a stint in management, she recently transitioned back to Direct Support work through assisting with Supported Employment and CPS services.

Stephanie is focused on helping individuals access meaningful community experiences and employment opportunities. Whether mentoring coworkers or helping an individual enjoy every part of a trip.

Our penultimate Direct Support Professional of the year, from our Non-Residential Department, is Ronda Carnwath! ANCOR

Only being with VCS for a few short months, Ronda has already made a lasting impact. After years of homeschooling her children and more than a decade away from the field, she returned to help support others. Through her local Church, Ronda connected an individual with VCS.

Since joining the team, she has used her hobbies and community connections to create unique opportunities. After having one individual volunteer at vacation Bible School, she has gained recognition and now has a potential job lined up!

Our Intermediate Care Direct Support Professional of the year is Milagro Maldonado! ANCOR

With nearly 20 years in the medical field, Milagro has dedicated her career to caring for others. She believes in leaving life's challenges at the door, allowing her to bring positivity, encouragement and compassion to everyone she serves. Her uplifting attitude and willingness to help have made such an impact that she's often requested for outings and has even earned a few nicknames!

April Brooks is our South West DSP of the year! ANCOR

For the past three and a half years, April has been a dedicated member of the VCS team. Sometimes working as many as 19 hours in a day, she brings a positive attitude and unwavering commitment to the individuals she supports. Individuals often wait for her to come in because they know she will help them get what they need, often within a day or less.

She creates menus and encourages healthy choices, even getting individuals to take her advice on healthy eating and wellness. April's dedication goes beyond the workplace, as she even encourages friends to join the VCS family.

Our North Western region DSP of the year is Desserea Zeigler! ANCOR

Des helps individuals stay connected with loved ones, like arranging meals with family members, and even visiting a parent in a nursing home. A scholar of the unique personalities of her individuals, she is adept at recognizing future issues before they come up in conversation.

She frequently check in on those she supports, even on on her days off. Thank you for your around-the-clock dedication!

Meet our Central region Direct Support Professional of the year! Happy ANCOR !

In just a year and a half with VCS, Alyssa has made an incredible impact as a DSP and Program Lead. One of her greatest strengths is helping to advocate internally for her individuals by calmly explaining each person's perspective and encouraging communication. Her efforts have led to a significant decrease in behavioral incidents and stronger relationships in the home. Despite staffing challenges and working shifts as long as 18 hours, Alyssa remains positive and dedicated.

We have lots of things planned this week, but felt it apt that a couple of individuals from our Self-Advocacy committee publicly thanked all of our staff that help them in having such a strong voice for change.

Dennis enjoyed a fun-filled trip to Hersheypark in July, complete with thrilling rides and a Tim McGraw concert! A pretty sweet day, if you ask us.
