The Mount Pleasant Police Department and its Cadet Program join the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office in mourning the loss of Deputy Michael Hendricks. Deputy Hendricks lost his life in the line of duty on 9/9/2026. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, co-workers, and others who knew him.

The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office is deeply saddened to confirm the passing of 33-year-old Charleston County Deputy Michael Hendricks, who was involved in a vehicle collision Wednesday, September 9, 2026, while on duty. Deputy Hendricks joined the Sheriff’s Office in April of 2023, and most recently served as a member of our Metro Unit.

This news has deeply affected all of us. Deputy Hendricks was known for showing up every day ready to serve and ready to help others—that commitment didn’t stop when he went home.

We are grieving alongside his family, friends, and coworkers, and ask our community to keep them in their thoughts. Out of respect for the family, we will share additional information when appropriate.

🚔Recent Training Experience:

On Wednesday, Cadets conducted high risk traffic stops, also known as felony traffic stops, performed on wanted subjects, stolen vehicles, and after pursuits. Cadets got to put together some of the fundamentals that they’ve been taught using their handcuffing and arrest tactics.
