Ever wonder what goes into making the food that fills your pets’ bowls? 🐾

Last week, W4C students and other students had the opportunity to tour Mid America Pet Food, getting a behind-the-scenes look at the company’s operations and the process of making pet food!

Thank you to Mid America Pet Food for welcoming the group and giving students a closer look at the industry!

Great things happen when students get in the room! 😀

We’re proud of W4C students Deacon Fair (left) and Ben Villenauve (right) for having the opportunity to meet Dr. Harrison Keller, Commissioner of Higher Education for the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

Meeting leaders in higher education gives our students a chance to learn, ask questions, share their experiences, and see firsthand the possibilities that are ahead of them.

Great job, Deacon and Ben! We’re proud of you!

Yesterday, W4C students joined a tour of Priefert in Mount Pleasant, TX! We got an inside look at how innovative agricultural and ranch equipment goes from idea to production, and learned more about the careers and skills that keep a Texas-based company moving forward.

Fun fact: Priefert was founded in Mount Pleasant in 1964 and is now one of the world’s largest livestock equipment manufacturers!

Thank you to the Priefert team for welcoming us!

Way to go Brissia and Evelyn!🥳

Mount Pleasant High School 2026 graduates, Brissia Alvarez and Evelyn Hernandez, have been named to the UIL All-State Journalism Staff. To qualify, students must have earned a minimum of 50 points by participating in UIL contests at invitational, district, regional and state meets, as well as ILPC and similar journalism contests at the local, regional, state and national level. To earn 50 points in one school year is no easy task. The UIL named 211 students representing 73 schools from across the state to the 2026 All-State Journalism Staff.

“I am so proud of Brissia and Evelyn and the honor of being named to the UIL All-State Journalism Staff,” said MPHS Journalism instructor and UIL Journalism Coach, John Whitten. “They have poured into the UIL Journalism program throughout their high school years and have been a huge part of the success that we have enjoyed, capped with a fourth-place finish in news writing by Brissia at the UIL State Meet in May. They are the first students to achieve this honor since I have been a UIL Journalism Coach, and they have set the bar for our expectations and hopes in our program. This is a very deserving honor for both Brissia and Evelyn and all they have accomplished.”

Alvarez now attends The University of Texas at Austin majoring in Biochemistry. Hernandez also attends UT Austin pursuing a degree in Advertising.

Way to go Isaac! Your W4C family is so proud of you!

MPHS senior Isaac Hernandez was elected to lead the entire state of Texas chapter of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) at the end of July.

Initially, Hernandez had won the election for State Area 6 Vice President in March. However, the office of State President was vacated this summer which led to a new election. The remaining state officers and state Vice Presidents nominated officers for the position. Hernandez was among three nominees and after two run-off elections, he was elected President for the entire state of Texas chapter. He will hold both President and Area 6 Vice President duties concurrently.

Hernandez becomes the first MPHS student to lead Texas FBLA as President and the fifth-ever state officer representative from MPHS.
Mount Pleasant High School FBLA

“My FBLA story began my sophomore year of high school,” said Hernandez. “When I first joined FBLA, I thought I would simply ‘check it out’; however, I quickly fell in love with it. I competed in Business Ethics and placed 2nd at area and qualified for state. I knew I wanted to grow further within FBLA, so I became more involved the following year. In my junior year, I had the honor of serving Mount Pleasant FBLA as the Parliamentarian. As the year went on, I grew closer to FBLA as a whole. I would spend time with the rest of the officer team planning and preparing for our Area Workshop. While at the area workshop, I earned 1st place in our annual Shark Tank competition. I competed in PSA and placed 2nd at area, qualifying me for state once more. Prior to state, my adviser, Mr. John Whitten, told me he wanted me to run for state office. At first, I was hesitant and afraid of the huge responsibility it would be, but he encouraged me. I now have the honor to be a part of an amazing team full of incredible leaders.”

MPHS FBLA Advisors are John Whitten, Shanta Lockett, Tracy Porter, and Raquel Yanez. To join MPHS FBLA, see any advisor for the registration form and look for announcements about the first meeting of the year in early September.
