Grief is weird. I don’t really know another way to say it.
One minute you’re okay. You’re doing normal life, laughing, working, taking care of everyone, and doing what needs to be done.
Then something hits you.
A thought.
A song.
A picture.
A moment that should have happened. And suddenly, you’re not okay. I think one of the hardest things I am learning about grief is that sometimes you’re not only grieving the person. You’re grieving everything you hoped for them. The healing you prayed for.
The life you hoped they would have. The moments you thought there would still be time for. The person you knew was underneath all the hurt and brokenness.
That’s a hard kind of grief.
I love Jesus. I know He is good. But I am still sad.
And I am learning that those things can exist in the same place. Faith doesn’t mean I have to pretend this doesn’t hurt. Out of this grief, we have created The Memorial Fund – Lauren Serene Maxwell. My prayer is that Lauren’s story will continue to matter. That through this fund, someone else walking through addiction and recovery will be reminded that they are seen, that their story is not over, and that there are people willing to walk beside them. Maybe healing doesn’t always mean the pain disappears.
Sometimes, maybe, God takes the places that hurt the most and uses them to help restore what has been broken. If you would like to learn more or give to Lauren’s Memorial Fund, I will share the information here. The LORD will guide you always; He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail. Isaiah 58:11
The Lauren Serene Maxwell Memorial Fund exists to support individuals participating in Celebrate Recovery by helping remove practical barriers that may stand in the way of healing, restoration, and long-term recovery.
