Some great tips from our Fire Department!

Yesterday marked the beginning of National Fire Prevention Week. This years theme is Smoke Alarms, Make them work for you. We cannot stress enough the importance of smoke alarms in your home. This is a small investment to keep your entire family safe from fire. Here are a few tips:

1.) Install a smoke alarm in every bedroom and outside each sleeping area (like in the hallway) and on each level of your home.

2.) Test your smoke alarm by pressing the test button once a month to make sure they work properly. Then take a few minutes and hold a home fire safety drill.

3.) Make sure that you have smoke alarms that meet the needs of your family, including those with sensory issues and physical impairments like vision or hearing problems.

Did you know that smoke alarms are only good for 10 years? After that they need replace no matter what the battery life is. After 10 years they can no longer effectively sense smoke.

We will be posting all week about fire safety tips so check back each day!
