As we prepare for Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, we wanted to share some recommended resources from our own HIE community. Although medical advancements have yielded some impactful interventions, for infants with severe HIE, there is a 25-50 percent mortality rate.

Whether you are grieving the loss of your child, sibling, or are paying respect to those souls taken too soon, there are a few ways you can acknowledge this Remembrance Day while taking care of yourself:

• Participate in the Global Wave of Light at 7:00 PM local time on October 15th. Light a candle and place it in a window or another visible location as a symbol of remembrance.🕯️

• Share Your Story: If you’ve experienced pregnancy or infant loss, consider sharing your story to provide comfort and support to others who may be going through a similar experience. You can join online gatherings, virtual memorial services, or social media campaigns that focus on pregnancy and infant loss awareness. Some resources have been shared above. 🫂

• Donate to Support Organizations: Contribute to charities and organizations that provide support, resources, and assistance to individuals and families affected by pregnancy and infant loss. ❤️‍🩹

• Offer a Listening Ear: Be there for your friends or loved ones who have experienced loss, and let them know you are available to listen and provide emotional support. No judgement. Only love and an open door. 💕

• Wear Pink and Blue: Wear pink and blue clothing or accessories on this day to symbolize pregnancy and infant loss awareness💙

October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month — a time to honor and remember the tiny lives that ended too soon, and to support the families who carry that love and grief every day. 🤍

On Thursday October 15th at 7 PM, we’ll be lighting a candle as a moment of remembrance, creating a Global Wave of Light that unites us across time zones and hearts. 🕯

Please join us in lighting a candle, wherever you are. Let’s shine together in memory, in love, and in solidarity. You are not alone. 💫

We’d like to send our most heartfelt THANK YOU to The Sawyer Motors Foundation for their generous $5,000 donation to Hudson Valley HIEroes at the 22nd Annual Sawyer Motors Car Show this past weekend!🚘🏁💙

This generous organization is a longtime supporter of Hudson Valley HIEroes, and we couldn’t be more grateful to be one of the beneficiaries of this incredible event. Their continued generosity helps us provide life-changing support for new families navigating an HIE diagnosis through our NICU bags and for families experiencing child loss due to HIE through our bereavement bags. Our community support through donations like this and from our many events also help provide necessary equipment/materials for children with HIE throughout the Hudson Valley that is not covered by insurance.

Thank you to The Sawyer Motors Foundation, everyone who attended the car show, the volunteers, sponsors, and all who helped make this event such a success. Your support truly makes a difference, and we are honored to be part of such a caring community. 🙌🌟🩵

It’s Birth Trauma Awareness Week💙an annual awareness campaign created by the Birth Trauma Association to shine a light on the lasting impact a traumatic birth can have on parents and families.

This year’s theme, The Cost of Birth Trauma, highlights the many ways birth trauma can affect every aspect of a family’s life.

For many families, an HIE diagnosis begins with a traumatic birth. The emergency that changes a baby’s life can also change a parent’s, leaving emotional, financial, relational, and caregiving impacts that often go unseen.

Every family’s experience is different. There is no “right” way to process a traumatic birth, and healing is not linear. If any part of this carousel resonates with you, we hope it serves as a reminder that your experiences matter, your feelings are valid, and you are not alone.

Last month, Hudson Valley HIEroes was proud to be part of the 2026 Capital Cup for Kids Hockey Tournament🏒❤️🏆

We were especially grateful for the opportunity to nominate Bryce as an honorary team captain. Bryce’s sister, Daisy, passed away from complications of HIE at just six weeks old.

Throughout the tournament, Bryce and his parents were welcomed with so much kindness, compassion, and support from the players and families around them. His team wore Daisy stickers on their helmets in honor of his sister’s life and as a visible reminder of the love that continues to surround her. Watching Bryce feel so celebrated, included, and supported was incredibly special.

At Hudson Valley HIEroes, so much of our work focuses on children living with HIE, but supporting families who have experienced unimaginable loss is just as important. That includes the children who carry deep love and grief for their siblings every single day. We were proud to help honor Daisy’s memory while celebrating Bryce in such a special way.

During the Cup’s Family Weekend, we also hosted a table where families could learn more about HIE, create bracelets, and connect with our mission. We showcased local children affected by HIE to help bring awareness to the many different faces and stories behind this diagnosis.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, supported our mission, and helped create such a welcoming and uplifting experience for all!💙
