There has been four drownings at the Jersey Shore this season and we’re not even officially in summer yet. PLEASE do not be complacent at the beach. Know how to recognize and get out of a rip current. Don’t swim without lifeguards. Do not swim intoxicated. Watch your kids, watch out for each other, and make good choices, please.

Normalcy Bias
Normalcy Bias is real and it’s what prevents people from reacting to an emergency. Quite simply it’s the natural tendency of a human being to believe something awful is happening so your brain makes up something less horrific. Your brain tells you it’s “fireworks” even though there’s no logical reason there’d be fireworks happening.
Knowing what normalcy bias looks like is an important first step in knowing how to overcome it in an emergency.
