Hello Friends & Happy Thanksgiving - I hope this email finds you all well.
November marks 10 years since I made the very first Cozies 4 Chemo blanket for my cousin Katie, and shortly after that I organized the first Cozies event and the blankets were all donated to the facility where Katie received her Chemo treatments. I remember being amazed by the support I received that day. I am happy to say, Katie has successfully completed her Masters, is working with children as a speech pathologist and is doing well.
As with many things, Covid slowed our momentum and changed what we were able to do. We did continue to provide blankets over the last year and a half, but on a much smaller level. Many facilities were no longer accepting blankets and we were cautious in accepting blankets during this time. What didn’t change was peoples willingness to help and desire to make blankets. We appreciate that support more than you can know.
As a family and as an organization, we have decided that as we approach our 10 year anniversary this is a good time to also mark the end of Cozies. We will finish distributing whatever blankets we have left over the next couple of months. When we finish distributing blankets, we will distribute whatever funds you have helped us raise to another organization with a similar mission and one which also assists cancer patients in some way. This will be a non-profit and will be agreed upon by our board.
Over the last 10 years, Cozies not only become a huge part of our family and who we were, but also a huge part of our community. We want to thank everyone who embraced Cozies and supported our efforts to “Give The Gift of Comfort” to so many people. We have donated over 11,000 blankets during this time. None of that would have been possible without the support of such a caring community. Many of you made Cozies your go to community service project. Our family is blessed to have gotten to know many of you because of Cozies and we are beyond grateful for all of you and your support throughout the years.
