Dr. Claudia Loebel defines biomaterials as materials designed to interact with living systems, from implants to drug delivery platforms. Her lab studies how cells interact with, respond to, and remodel their extracellular matrix, using biomaterials to recreate that microenvironment. Dr. Aidan Gilchrist defines a biomaterial as anything used to augment, repair, or replace a biological tissue or function, natural or synthetic.
